I usually order the French Dip, which has always come on a 9 to 10 inch hoagie roll, as specified on the menu. This time, however, it was disappointing to see it served on a small hamburger bun, much less than usual. It was also quite off-putting to see a young waitress with visible hickeys; I believe she could have done a better job of addressing her appearance. Despite my frustration, I reluctantly left a 5% tip, feeling sorry for her as she seemed unaware of proper customer service. I hope to receive a response from the restaurant and that they take steps to improve this situation.
Wow! I dropped by without any expectations and was pleasantly surprised. This small-town pub serves up classic bar food with a menu that ranges from burgers and hot dogs to seafood fettuccine. We decided on burgers, and they were fantastic—hand-formed patties cooked to perfection, juicy, and full of flavor. I ordered mine with lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise, and onion, but honestly, they were so delicious that you hardly needed any toppings. We arrived in the early afternoon, so the place was nice and quiet. It has the charm of an old saloon, definitely showing its age in a good way. Will we return? Absolutely! They have karaoke and plenty of beer specials, so we’ll definitely have to check it out on a Saturday night. I rate it 4.5 stars overall; the food is just a bit on the pricey side—my burger and fries came to $9.45, plus the tea—but it was definitely worth it.
Since my last review, I’ve tried several dishes: double-dipped wings (excellent), Reuben (still my favorite, excellent), French fries (very good), black bean veggie burger (excellent), sweet potato fries (excellent), chef salad (excellent), and peanut butter pie (divine). This place truly stands out as the coolest spot around, and I believe you'll need to visit more than once to fully appreciate its charm. It's the ideal place to unwind and enjoy a drink or two, or simply savor a delicious meal from their wide selection of tasty options. Pendleton is fortunate to have the Islander, and I hope it remains a beloved spot for many years to come.
Service a little slow at lunch, ordered a philly and it was nothing special. Not a lot on it. Waitress was nice, good place to stop but wouldn't go out of my way to come here.
The Islander is gone and now open under the name Blue Herron the new menu is great and so is the food and staff.
