We rode, did a float fly fishing trip on the snake river one day that was fantastic, Annie was our guide and she was great. However, there was one turd in the punch bowl.. The wrangler Derek was a bit of an anal retentive micro manager on rides, nice way of saying he was a bit of a P lectures about don 't touch the horn of the saddle, ever. I got a 5 minute lecture on the first day regarding that, I had to say ok, I got it probably 7 times before he would let it go, kind of like listening to a Kamala Harris word salad... and then during the ride he would say things like hey I saw that! don 't touch the horn! ... He has good riding skills, just terrible at treating guests nicely. A real pain in the a that took all the joy out of riding for two days. Very unfortunate. We just walked and trotted for two whole days, the third day I was ready to lope which is a smooth run with your horse and a lot of fun. I 've done it before at two previous dude ranches and it really is a lot of fun. Derek the wrangler was not interested in guest input, on day 3 he picked 5 or 6 riders who he thought were ready to go loping and the rest of us could just walk and trot on our horses.. totally weak.. Anyway, I turned in my horse and skipped that day as just walking was getting old. Maybe another approach would be hey, we are going loping today, whoever wants to learn, please join me . But that was never a choice. The next day I joined with Avery the wrangler who had been leading the teen group and my daughter (they had been loping all week). I was one of four new riders in her group, she asked us what would you like to do? and we responded we would like to lope on the ride, we 've been wanting to do that all week . She said, great, let me give you some instructions on positioning etc. and we 'll get to it . What a breath of fresh air she was, 5 minutes later we were loping with our horses and having a wonderful time, we did a 3 hour ride and it was awesome, plenty of loping where it was safe, so much fun! She saved the trip as far as I 'm concerned, big time kudo 's to her! Summary A really beautiful place and the staff is very nice, decent food too. We won 't be returning though as I would not want to risk getting stuck with that Derek dude even for a minute, he takes too much away from a beautiful vacation and experience and there are many other options. Half my trip was great and the half with Derek was a waste of time.. kind of a bummer when you spend money and travel far and have someone like that ruining the experience. Everyone and everything else was great, just that one turd in the punchbowl... Not worth taking the chance again...
I can't comment about value for money; my Snake River float was part of an Austin Adventures tour. I enjoyed the experience. It was very scenic and safe. Our raft guide was informative and very pleasant.
Great experience! We did an 8:30am float and saw bald eagles, otters, moose and more. Bring some binoculars and wear extra layers if you go in the morning is 10 degrees colder on the water. Our guide was amazing and the entire put in/load out process was a breeze.
Had a great dinner float, 12 of us were with Alex. Very knowledgeable and entertaining. Really wanted a moose but saw lots of beaver and bald eagles. Dinner of steak and chicken was very good! Nice relaxing ride, perfect evening
We were guests of my wife’s parents for anniversary summer vacation. We had a wonderful time. The staff and Turner family really know how to do it! Cabins were great and food was as well! We rode the horses everyday. Most riding I’ve done! We booked a fishing trip down the Snake River and had the best guide Nick is very knowledgeable and patient. He had my whole family catching trout with not a lot of experience with fly fishing from a drift boat. We loved it so much we booked Nick twice. Highly recommend Triangle X!
