フィードバックを提供するLike its neighbor, Ken's Grill, this small eatery serves its Eastern NC-style BBQ only on Wednesdays and Saturdays. They take pride in their BBQ, proudly declaring on the menu that they are the "Home of the Best N.C. Style BBQ Pork Down East." The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with friendly staff, but unfortunately, the BBQ falls short of being the best in the region. Their hours are from 4 AM to 2 PM, Monday through Saturday, making breakfast a popular choice here, and they offer a fairly extensive menu until 10 AM. Breakfast options include traditional egg and meat combinations served with sides like biscuits, jelly, and coffee—such as 2 eggs with bacon for $4.99. They also serve omelets, biscuit sandwiches, pancakes, and a dish called "Little Baltimore Waffles," named after the town where the grill is located. One downside is that their breakfast menu does not feature liver pudding, but you can order rice gravy for just $1.79. Daily lunch specials include items like fried chicken, pork chops, hamburger steak, grilled chicken, shrimp plates, spaghetti, and BBQ on Wednesdays and Saturdays. On Saturdays only, you can pre-order ribs, and they offer 8 pounds of potato salad or 1 gallon of coleslaw for $17.99. The menus certainly provide some interesting reading material. As for the BBQ itself, it doesn't have the typical Eastern style flavor or appearance. It's somewhat reddish-brown in color (unlike Ken's, B's, or Jack Cobb's), and it has a sweeter taste compared to most Eastern BBQ. The meat is tender, juicy, and contains some lovely crusty bits from the outside, and it's moderately chopped. This BBQ has a milder flavor, which some people might prefer. A large BBQ plate with sides like coleslaw, fries, and hushpuppies costs $7.79. The coleslaw is white and slightly sweet, which pairs well with the BBQ. The fries are perfectly fried and well-seasoned, while the hushpuppies are tasty—though they did have an excessive amount of grease, leaving our bag soaked by the time we reached the car. The hot dog here is excellent with great chili flavor, served on nice buns; however, it is quite small but still only costs $1.09. The staff asked me twice if I wanted ketchup on my hot dog, and I assured them I did not. A few other interesting notes from the menu: there is a strict "No Sharing Food" policy (mentioned three times, indicating it's a common issue), and they ask for patience on BBQ days, stating they cook BBQ pigs and turkeys for customers. Overall, while it may not be the best BBQ around, the friendly service makes it worth a visit if you're in the area.
I love her grill! As mentioned in the post, they are only fresh on Wednesdays and Saturdays. I truly miss this place, but sadly, I haven't been back in over a year. I recently placed a takeout order and everything was fantastic, but during the call, the owner's daughter asked me for money. When I thought it was a legitimate request, I was surprised because I really enjoy the restaurant and planned to return. However, she had the audacity to say that she needed more money than she initially asked for, but that she would accept whatever I could give. She made me promise to keep it a secret. This afternoon, I tried to call the restaurant again, hoping to speak with her mother or stepfather, but it seems she forwarded all incoming calls to her own phone. It feels shady, and I haven’t been back since.
One of the best grill spots around! The grill options are only available on Wednesdays and Saturdays, but make sure to try the grilled turkey on Thursdays—it's absolutely delicious! Yum!
