I enjoy visiting this place on Saturday mornings for a Galao Cappuccino and a Portuguese chocolate croissant. I've noticed that the items from the counter are freshly baked every day, but the pastries in the refrigerated display case aren't as fresh. I had a disappointing experience this New Year's Eve when I bought $40 worth of various pastries. The Bolas de Berlin were hard and dry, the eclairs tasted like they had been in the refrigerator too long, and the cream inside was dry and flavorless. The lemon swirl cake was old and dry as well. It was such a letdown that we ended up throwing the pastries away. On special occasions like this, shouldn't they showcase their best baking? It seems like they risk damaging their reputation by serving subpar items. The staff is friendly, and the service is decent, but I really wish they wouldn’t sell stale pastries. I don't know what happened this New Year, but it definitely wasn't cool!
