We enjoyed the food here. For Entree we had, Oysters Mornay and Oysters Kilpatrick which were cooked to perfection and the oysters were fresh. Our Mains were the Fishermans Basket and one of the Chicken Meals which was a special. The service was quick, considering how very busy they were and the staff were friendly. We were initially seated in the little 'room' at the back of the restaurant but it was so loud we asked to move, but this was no issue as the staff were great at assisting with this. I would return for convenience.
We are here in a large group, seated at several tables. Although we went up and ordered separately, when they brought the food out, they just said 'schnitzel' etc, without a table number or name, which meant that everyone on each table was left waiting for ages for someone to get their meal, as some inadvertently went to the wrong tables. We ordered first, and two people at our were therefore left waiting for their meals until the end of the service.I'd like to say that the food was worth the wait, but it was unfortunately just very ordinary. Of the two risottos served to our table, only one hard Parmesan, and, despite the nice consistency, neither had much flavour. The chicken in it was stewed and chewy. Those who ordered fish & chips and schnitzel were happy enough, but it was just standard pub fare.Fortunately our night was still great due to the great company and friendly staff, but we wouldn't return here.
My advice is, if you can find a better restaurant then do so. I visited the Dickson Tradies club just over a year ago and again last weekend, don't think the menu has changed !. Food is only fair and the ambiance of the place is very dead. I think you can do better in Canberra. Would only recommend if you can't find anywhere else, Dickson Tradies need to pick up their game if they want people coming back as they are doing no favours to their members, even the drinks menu is expensive in comparison to other clubs.
This is the restaurant within the Tradies club. Order at the counter but with table service. Order your drinks early as the bar service is painfully slow. The food was fine, but is typical of a pub bistro. Plenty of options within walking distance.
