Was pleasantly surprised to be greeted by a very friendly akamai server and I enjoyed the delish sample lemon sweet cream which tasted like a cool refreshing lemon bar. Kind of an odd mixture of a sushi bar and sweet eatz place in one but it works. I would highly recommend this place and will most definitely come back! Not too many gluten-free options in the deli case but I look forward to trying some in the future ; Additional comment added 8 15 17: Forgot to mention that this place offers COMPOSTABLE biodegradable single-use spoons for the gelato instead of the normal plastic ****. LOVE IT!
Angela's done it again here at her Sweet Eatz!! Over the top-Blow your mind deliciousness with the Tres Picakas! Take some of your favorite pies cooked inside your favorite cakes and OMG!!!
Thank you so much for my wife's birthday cake. She absolutely loved it. My youngest daughter could not believe how moist the cake was. This is the second birthday cake I've gotten from Chef Angela and she does am amazing job every time. Her cakes are almost too pretty to eat, but they're so delicious you can't stop eating one once you start! Perfection, thank you.
Kinda kicking myself for not having walked through the doors earlier and tried it sooner. I had seen it sitting there quietly next to Rainbow Cafe where I eat lunch quite a bit. Rainbows has been striking out pretty consistently as of late, which made me think why not give the guys a couple doors down a shot? I sure am glad I did. The first thing you will notice is the storefront is split down the middle one sign says Sushi U, and the other half says Sweet Eatz. This is because, you guessed it, there are two things happening here. Once you walk in, you see the store pretty much split in half (two different owners, two different entities), the left side being sushi and the right side sweet eatz. As this was my first time, I opted to try them both out. I 'll sick to Sweet Eatz for this review and review Sushi U separately. On the wall is a big chalkboard menu that looks like much of it changes daily, aside from the drink options. To be honest, I didn 't even look at the menu, as the glass cases with all the sweet goodness is staring right at you. I wanted to try a few things, as it is difficult to gauge a place by just one offering. I opted for a butterscotch cookie, a toffee almond bar, and something I had never seen before a Nanaimo bar. Evidently, this is a famous thing in Canada. I had no idea. I 'm always up for trying something brand new, so that was an automatic. Also looked in the case and saw what appeared to be ready to eat meals. Upon looking, the staff handed me a flyer for a separate business the owner has, called Healthy Eatz. It is a healthy meal service in which you can ask to have delivered or can pick up at the shop. For all the people working who don 't have time to make meals ahead of time, and the ones who don 't want to eat not so healthy lunches, this is service for you. The guy working (maybe co owner? I didn 't ask) was very nice and informative. Paid for my items (credit cards accepted) and took my bounty back to work. As I wanted to share with the wife at home, I didn 't eat right away. Naturally, the sweets were staring at me for the last 3 hours of work. Upon trying the Nanaimo bar first, the first thing that hit me was the chocolate layer on top. It was almost like it was fudge. Very very sweet. I like very sweet, up until about the halfway point. Teeth start to hurt, so I save the second half for the next day. The butterscotch cookie is pretty good, the cookie somewhat moist, the butterscotch topping hard. I liked it more than my wife, I would eat it again, but not until I have tried everything else here. Now, if there is a crown jewel at this place, I may have stumbled upon it my first trip. The toffee almond bar.......wow wow wow. This was very good. The wife actually ate her half first and couldn 't stop raving about how delicious it was. Being from Japan, I knew it must have not been that sweet (they don 't like their sweets as sweet as Americans). Once I took a bite, I knew immediately this was something I would be back here for again...and again..... It was so delicious. It reminded me of something like taking a piece of baklava without the layers, mixing it with a Samoa Girl Scout cookie, then shaving some almonds onto it and pressing it into a bar. This was top notch. Now that I 'm talking about it, I think I will go see if they have some this week. This was the first trip to Sweet Eatz, last Friday. I had taken a flyer to Healthy Eatz and wanted to see what they were about. First think I notice is the food looks amazing, and the owner is an actual bonafide chef. The menu had Brasilian feijoada, which is something I love dearly and have NEVER seen anywhere on the Big Island. This was an automatic immediate order. I digress, I will write a separate review for Healthy Eatz later. Upon picking up my meal on Monday (now my second time here in 2 business days), I find it a must to take some more dessert home for the wife to try, and to add a few more samples for this review. This time, I ordered a lilikoi (passion fruit) bar and a macadamia nut chocolate cake type thing. I 'm ashamed the name escapes me, and i didn 't take a picture of the sign. Nonetheless, both desserts were good. The lilikoi bar had a little bit of a funky softness texture to it (and this may possibly be because I again did not eat it right away, but left it at room temperature) with an insanely hard crust. If you wanted to cut this thing in half with someone equally, you would need a mitre saw. This thing will decide where it breaks with your fork, you will not. Don 't get me wrong, I actually like hard crusts like this. It was just surprising when compared to how soft the lilikoi was. It was akin to cutting into butter then a piece of lava rock. Would I order it again? Definitely. If I were in the mood for TART to the max. The macadamia chocolate cake was good as well, and wasn 't too sweet. Another bonus point for the wife. TLDR I will be back. Many times!
Angela is AMAZING!!! She catered the desserts for our wedding and did an incredible job. Her desserts are delectable, her presentation is artistic, and her communication is clear, detailed, and thoughtful. She is a true talent. I would work with her again in a heartbeat! Mahalo Angela!!!
