Went there today for the first time, have wanted to go for a long time and weren't disappointed. Food was great, wine was excellent. My only regret is that we weren't able to taste more of the wines.
Had a visit to Millbrook with my wife today. We had 3 courses and were definitely impressed with the meal, service and the view. From the complimentary bread and olives, shared platter for 2, mains of lamb and pork (an understatement). We then moved onto a "pre-desert" of panecotta and dessert of the cheese platter (definitely worth it) and my wife ordered a chocolate mouse cake which they actually halved and gave us half a piece each ... for me the extra touches and service would bring me back again. We recently went to a 5 star restaurant in Perth and personally I would drive past that place to come here every time. (and the drive is quite picturesque).
We went for our wedding anniversary and were not disappointed. We sampled the white wines at the cellar door so we could pick our favourite for the meal. The service was excellent and attentive without being over powering! This also included the restaurant calling the day before to confirm our reservation which was re assuring. The menu was small, but everything was local, with the veg being from the garden, which was a nice touch. The great thing about this place for us is that the menu offers things a little bit different, but not so different that it takes us too far out of our comfort zone! A great example was duck's hearts as a starter. The cuts for the pork dishes change as well, as they use a whole pig, so obviously the cuts change as various parts of the animal are used up.We went for Sunday Lunch which has a fixed price 3 courses if you wish. You get great views of the lake and valley from the restaurant, and a log fire burns in the winter. We have been a couple of times before, and we will certainly return. It is essential to book.
We've been trying to get to this Winery for a year or so as friends highly recommended it. Mothers Day was fully booked so we opted for a Monday outing to experience the 'no waste' day. Five courses at a cost of $50 a head plus wine extra was very good value. We started with a tasting plate of nibbles, olives, soft curd cheese, finely sliced beef followed by a small serve of salt and pepper squid on a salsa sourced from the garden. Some braised rabbit pieces with a gorgeous fennel salad followed and a grilled cos lettuce with the Chef's take on a warm Caesar salad was served also. We were starting to blow out a bit at this stage but wait...there's more. Slow cooked brisket, spuds and some beans all cooked to perfection followed by a chocolate dessert with some cultured cream. Not sure about the cream on that dessert tho. We had a terrific day out with great food and a glass or two of wine. I recommend it to you.
