I liked that the menu had minimal options for entrees. I figured they would do a small number of dishes very well but everything they brought was completely underwhelming. If you’re 60+ years old looking for a mediocre meal with a tired menu and a boring atmosphere this is your place. It maybe unfair to judge based off of a single dish and drinks but I knew nothing was likely to improve. The manager said he understood and even though I offered to pay they declined which was nice of them.
I recently dined at The Blue Lion and had an outstanding experience. The Idaho trout was simply magnificent—perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor. The staff was incredibly welcoming and attentive, making the entire evening enjoyable. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a top-notch dining experience in Jackson!
Visited while in town for our anniversary. Food was delicious and the live music was great. Unfortunately, deducting a star for a couple reasons. First, the server was a bit cold and did not communicate well. It seemed that as soon as he realized we weren’t ordering alcohol (we do not drink), he had no interest in us. Additionally, our reservation was at opening and they were already sold out of the dish my husband wanted to try. I get supply chain issues, but seems like a big oversight by the restaurant.
I recently visited The Blue Lion and had a highly unpleasant dining experience. Shortly after our entrees were served, numerous wasps surrounded our table, landing on our food, and even consuming parts of it. We had to stop eating immediately as this made it impossible to enjoy our meal and raised serious concerns about hygiene. Despite bringing this issue to the attention of the staff, the response was disappointing. We were informed that we could be moved indoors but were expected to accept and pay for the food that had been compromised by the wasps. The situation escalated unnecessarily when management called the police after I expressed my dissatisfaction with their handling of the matter. Overall, this experience was frustrating and significantly spoiled from what should have been an enjoyable dining experience. I hope that The Blue Lion takes steps to address these issues in the future to ensure a more safe and pleasant environment for their guests. Edit to add: Elk meatballs were on the average side. The rack of lamb, described as crispy on the outside, was disappointingly soggy. The lack of crispiness detracted from what should have been a highlight of the dish, leaving it underwhelming in texture and flavor. Similarly, the beef tenderloin failed to impress. It lacked any discernible flavor, leaving me questioning the quality of the preparation and ingredients used.
I highly recommend the halibut and elk chops. Both were so tender and tasty. The entrees come with a salad. I had the basil peppercorn dressing which was a great change of pace.
