The Gazelle - Isle of Anglesey

The Gazelle, Menai Bridge. After reading reviews, we decided to pop in. Never again : Very disappointed, we walked in with 2 dogs, 1 is medium,lab size and the other one is much large, both quiet and calm. First question from staff before we even said anything was, Can they behave? do they get on with other dogs because there 's other dogs so they will need to !!! Shocked, Yes , I replied, Toby, sometimes, may bark a couple of times when he first sees a dog but not always but otherwise, yes they do behave . The man then said well, they had better Then just scowled and gestured towards bar and said, you 'll have to go in the bar . That was fine, I was happy to sit anywhere, but don 't make me feel like we have done something wrong when we have only just walked in. We went and found a table. Sitting in bar area were two other couples with dogs, the nearest lady looked up as we passed and put her hand by her dog and spoke to her dog before saying to us, oh she can be grumpy even though her dog didn 't make a noise, no dogs even acknowledged each other. We spoke for a minute to her about dogs and then sat down. Our dogs then sat lay down.We waited 5 or 6 mins and were badically ignored, a waitress even came to our table replacing condiments she had filled, as she went to walk away, we asked if we could have a menu, which she brought. A few minutes later they came back , took order, we decided not to have a main meal and rather have hot tea, soup and chips. There was no friendliness and the whole feeling was decidedly cool. Food served, no knives for buttering bread but no staff to be seen then and no one else eating in bar area by then. Food was mediocre, soup was awful, Chips were covered in black bits eyes. No one checked how meal was.We were mid way through meal, both of us had put spoons down soup was half eaten and were drinking tea when waitress came over and said have you finished to my daughter who as she said said well , I think .... and before she could finish the waitress picked up bowl and went to take chip bowl, still half full too , I was suprised, it was obvious we hadnt but quite honestly just went oh, ok, yes then . She picked up mine as well and left. No one came to see if we wanted anything else. I wanted just to go, It wasnt worth sitting there feeling so uncomfortable. We went to pay where staff were by front entrance and was told pointed to go back to bar area to pay, no one in there waitress followed and as we stood there put bill on bar and said have you already paid for drinks we said we hadn 't, no response she just she just turned her back and the re presented another bill and the card machine.I paid. She then said was everything OK to which I replied, no, not really, she didn 't reply, so I then said I dont think we 'll be coming again and she said ok , no why, no sorry to hear that etc.just ok. No pleases or Thank you 's when paying. We said, Bye , no reply , we walked past the other staff who were just stood there at the desk again by door and left no acknowledgement . The dogs had been impeccably behaved as expected, throughout. All in all, it was disappointing, unwelcoming and basic food. If you don 't like dogs.....or as we felt large dogs, say so. Definitely not dog friendly or for that matter people friendly!

We had lunch at the restaurant today in the bar area. The food was okay, but it was uncomfortably cold inside. There were no radiators on and the fire was not lit. The staff were walking around in short sleeve shirts, which made the experience even less enjoyable. The food went cold quickly and we decided to leave as soon as we finished eating. This seems to be a common issue with desserts, as they were also served cold with no heating on. Additionally, the chairs were very uncomfortable with no cushions, just wooden seats, causing numbness in our bottoms. My husband had to sit on my coat for some extra comfort.

We had a wonderful dining experience on a lovely sunny day in early autumn, surrounded by beautiful scenery. The service was exceptional in both welcoming us and serving us. Our lunches were deliciously prepared and beautifully presented, earning a perfect 10/10 rating. This meal made our family gathering truly memorable. An added bonus was the absence of background noise or music, allowing us to fully enjoy our time together. Many thanks to the staff for their excellent service.

A thoroughly disappointing evening that spoiled a family get together. From arrival it took us nearly 1 hour to get our starters, including a tiny plate of bread for a party of 5 people. The food itself was very ordinary and nothing to shout about, not to mention the limited menu (which is nowhere to be seen on the hotel website . 1h30 and we still had no mains, so we asked how much longer it would be. It then transpired that they had only 2 chefs working if we had been told this on arrival we could at least have had the chance to prepare for a wait, or to have made other eating arrangements. As it was, 2 hours later we had had enough and decided to leave without our mains, after being assured it would 'only ' be 10 more minutes (one customer had been waiting 3 hours to get their mains!! Without any kind of management in sight, the waitress who seemed to be in charge was very apologetic and gave us our drinks and starters free of charge, plus a bottle of wine an appreciated gesture, but the evening had already been ruined by then and the complete lack of communication or explanation up front was just unacceptable. We ended up getting a takeaway from Menai instead, a very, very disappointing end to what should have been a fun night out. The management need to have a serious look at their work practices and how they inform customers of potential delays, because after tonight I would not EVER recommend or go back to the Gazelle.

Fantastic stay and dinner break. We live locally but love this place and more importantly it's very dog friendly. Amazing setting on the manai with amazing views of the mountains. Staff are extremely helpful and kind. I would highly recommend this hidden gem
