Rathskeller Restaurant - Indianapolis

This restaurant is a fantastic place to unwind, with a cozy atmosphere and excellent beer selection. The outdoor beer garden is a perfect spot to enjoy live music, delicious bratwurst, and of course, beer!

This restaurant appears to be relying on its past reputation. The food was mediocre, with one meal served cold by mistake, but quickly rectified by the staff. The staff seemed hurried for no apparent reason. The atmosphere was reminiscent of a German beer hall.

We have checked online before we go to the restaurant to see if there are tables available. what turned out, there were anytime options for reservations. we came on a Thursday night at 16:15, so we thought why we made a reservation. when we arrived, the restaurant was empty, as expected to consider the time. the host asked if we had reservations that we had not. then he told us that there were no tables available because they had reserved tables and we could sit at the bar area. that seemed skeptical, but we went along. once in the bar area we sat online again and there were tables all night. we could have booked online and went to the host immediately and told him we have a reservation now. but we sat and didn't want to move. in the approximate hour we were there, only one table had been taken in the restaurant area. I would have given a star for the service, but our server at the table has made a good job. we have been here several times in the past and the services have been quite good so far. Not sure why the host did not want us to sit in the restaurant area, but the atmosphere and experience is simply not the same at the bar. we were somewhat disappointed by the overall experience, not for what we came into this restaurant.

I came here for a high time. beautiful furnishings and the personal did an absolutely fantastic work. eating was also incredible. the filled mushrooms were from this world, the German kartoffel salad was amazing, and the sausage was fantastic; really, everything was great.

I consider myself as a knower of all things German and that is barely no best place for German eating and culture, it was always my pleasure to visit. it is cultural center, so it is a larger building than they expect. eating itself is excellent and authentic and the beer is purely German. I spent enough time in Germany and I felt at home there.
