I was impressed with the smoothness of the ahi and the coating of the sauce, but felt the portions were small for the price. The counter service was simple and the food service was quick, so no complaints there. It was difficult to find parking for this Chinatown-location and the food court-style seating left a lot to be desired, but the food was delicious. Would recommend to others, but perhaps at their other location.
For a take-out/order place for sushi and poke, the quality of the fish couldn't be better! Each time I passed by it, there was a line so I decided to go get it a little later than there opening. The quality of the fish is perfect, including the sauces that they put on/with it.
$28.12 after tax for chutoro with ikura and uni. The rice was dense and seasoned perfectly. Its temperature was just right. The ikura, uni, and tamagoyaki were excellent as well. Everything tasted fresh! Simply said, you can tell a seasoned Japanese sushi chef was behind the counter. The chutoro, however, was a bit of a disappointment. The slices were thin and tasted no better than Akami. Also, the portion size seems like it was right out of Tokyo (ie too small for most Americans). At this portion to price, I’d lean towards paying a little more for a decent Chirashi at the local sushi joint. Maybe their salmon or Chirashi will provide better value I will find out next time!
This is a really small takeout spot, with no seating and a bit hidden. However, the fish was incredibly fresh and that really comes through the most. My wife is more about the flavourings in poke, which to be honest we’ve had better back in Canada. The thing though is at. $15 price point can you ask for fresher fish?! It was served room temperature? Which was new to us but I enjoyed it and would go back. My wife would probably give it 4 stars but I’ll leave it with a 5. We had the Hawaiian, Shoyu and Spicy mayo. I also had the uni, but to be fair that’s my first time trying uni, so I’m not sure what to compare it to.
Have been looking forward to this place for a while. It was closed during my previous visits of the island. They’ve recently moved from their little corner in the market to the food court in Chinatown. The current location is better with more room and cleaner. However, it is still not the most convenient location and parking is a bit challenging. There is a tight parking garage a couple of blocks down, but you will have to walk thru some markets. We ordered Chu toro donburi, uni, ahi belly and salmon kama. Maybe we went on their off day, but we were a bit disappointed. The uni was good, but the chu toro was just okay, not as fresh as expected. Surprisingly, the cooked fish were great! I would return if I happen to be in the area, but is it a spot worth a trip or a detour for it? Probably not.
