Red Stripes Caribbean Cuisine Lounge Hilton Head

We placed a large takeout order at this restaurant for a party of 6, with both vegan and non-vegan items. They quoted a 23-minute wait time but surprisingly had our order ready in less time! The staff was quick and the lady who assisted me was very helpful in answering all my questions about the vegan menu items. I decided to go with the chickpea curry instead of the brown stew, as she mentioned that the stew was on the sweeter side (these are their two most popular vegan dishes). The curry was good, but I felt it could use a bit more flavor. The collard greens were a bit too salty for my taste. Overall, I would consider returning to try other items if I were in town for a longer period.

There are many vegan choices available at this restaurant, and they are all very delicious. However, the flavors were not quite what I had anticipated. I have visited several other Caribbean restaurants in the past, and the food here was unique compared to what I have experienced before. Despite this, the dishes were still enjoyable.

My husband and I were enticed by the vegan fare and the carry out option. We ordered the tofu stew and the curry chickpeas (our favorite of the 2). The sides we chose included cabbage (ok, but unfortunately oily), peas and rice (good), green beans (not good-swimming in a 1/2 C of oil), and the fried plantains. When we originally placed our pickup order they said it would be ready in 20-30 minutes. It actually wasn’t ready until 55 minutes later. There were only 2 other parties dining in, and no other pickup orders came through while we were waiting.

I would have given five stars, but I can't because it's not completely vegan. However, I really enjoyed my meal at this restaurant. I ordered the brown stew tofu and curry tofu, both of which were delicious. The staff were friendly, the restaurant was clean, and there were plenty of clearly labeled vegan options available.
