We visited as a family and chose the restaurant based on location and reviews on TripAdvisor. We all enjoyed our various pasta and pizza meals. The restaurant was warm and the food was reasonably priced for Hamburg.Expect to wait long for service so be prepared to order your drinks and meal at the same time so to avoid waiting for the return of the waitress or waiter.
ANGLÈSNo objections about food. It's really acceptable (nothing outstanding but my pizza and the pasta of my colleagues was good). What I suggest is a training in customer service for the staff and an additional course of education to the lady working in the restaurant. She insulted my Italian colleague in a very ugly manner only because in a private conversation, my colleague told me that there was a grammatical error on the outside sign. They lost 8 customers just in one minute. I'll never come back to that restaurant.
I was happy to see the restaurant listed since I couldn't remember the full name. Loved the food, service and staff. Great bread and pasta, great sauce and wine. Reasonably priced and charming. Downstairs from street level, we weren't sure about the looks but it came highly recommended by another hotel guest and they were right. Try it!
Pizza or pasta: you don't think about an Italian in any other terms. It is the tiny variations and know-hows that make the difference. In this place, it seems as if there is nothing to complain about: service is very descent, the menu has a good selection of typical formulae, the anti-pastis being real appetizers. We tried both pizza (scampi, quattro fromaggi and napolitana) and pasta (arabiata) and paid a reasonable 25 Euros per person (it could be better if not for the table water at 5.50 a bottle). Pizzas are 'al forno', although the pastry is not an "italiano vero" advertised by the owner: it is simply not the right mix, and it doesn't look nor feel like an oven-baked flat bread, but rather like an industrial thin-crust pizza. Now, if you are not picky on the pastry, this should not be a problem. The pasta is quite descent, with no twists or chef's specials: typical arabiata, in our case. A litre of house red, two bottles of mineral water and a pint of bekcs turned out to take nearly third of our bill (33 Eur), so be careful on your drinks list. Pizzas are descent size, the ambiance is quite cosy and family-type. I based my rating on the value for money factor as well as my vast experience of the Italian delis, inter alia, in Germany.
The pizzas were very small, especially for the price. carbonara was restless, had as good as no parmesan at all and the ham was cheap.
