The best halibut in town. Delicious food, excellent service and an amazing local bar!!

So we heard the fish and chips here was the best in Alaska. I don’t have any other Alaskan fish and chips experience to compare to but I do have extensive experience with English and Irish fish and chips. The halibut here is very uniquely prepared and differs substantially (in a good way) from other traditional fish at fish and chip restaurants. It is light breading around “balls” of flaky halibut. I don’t know what’s in their coating but it makes the fish taste amazing. The dill sauce that goes with it is equally as good. Now is where the problem begins…it not the best fish and chips in Alaska because it’s not served with chips. It’s served with frozen, crunchy coated fries. My review would have been 5 stars but to me it’s egregious to advertise the best fish and chips and not serve either fresh cut fries or thick cut fries. Anyway, go for the fish…not the fries.

Bad service. ridiculous portions and high prices for the quality of food eaten. If you are in Haines look elsewhere...there is better in town. Note of demerit to the blonde and elderly lady who in our opinion should change jobs because she doesn't know how to do this.

I was there with my family and ordered 2 cheeseburger, 2 chicken wings and 2 draft beer. The old blonde lady gave us 2 bottle of beer and said is the same of draft beer . NO madame, we want draft beer and after 10 minutes she gave us the ordered beer. The kids finished very soon the cheeseburger, the smallest in the world, and ask more food, so I called the waitress and ask some other food... she replied for everything you have to wait 45 minutes . Ok, we have to take the ferry and don 't have time to wait... after 1 minute a family comes in and order food and drink...10 minutes later all the food was served. Poor food, hot beer, BAD SERVICE. if you are in Haines you have another 6 or 7 restaurant to go. Avoid this place!!
