Hahndorf Old Mill

Great place to go with Family and Friends, huge smorgasbord of food and different thing to try, plus the Sweets Area is great for kids.

My wife and I were making one of our periodic visits to Adelaide, (our elder son's family), and for a change we went to Hahndorf. We had a buffet lunch at the Old Mill, and I felt it was great value for the price (it is even cheaper on Tuesday afternoons!). Plenty of cold cuts and salads, along with hot food (chicken/pork/beef/sea-food, plus a wide variety of vegetables (steamed/fried). To top it off, there were several desserts. In keeping with the German tradition in Hahndorf, there was plenty of stuff like strudels, etc... It is a huge hall, and the staff were most helpful (most people would not need any help, but we had two small children in our group, so we needed some assistance!!) I would strongly recommend this place if you are in Hahndorf for a day trip from Adelaide! Oh, by the way, there is plenty of parking available, though we did not need it, as we had parked elsewhere.

My work colleagues and I visited The Old Mill for the buffet dinner on a week night.At $35 per head we thought it would have to be good value up in the end were we unimpressed.We arrived at around 7pm and I found that the hot food was mainly dry. Even the warm fruit strudel was dry with the pastry sticking to the bay Marie. Perhaps if we had turned up a little earlier the food would have been moist. Yes there is quite a good variety of food but compared to other buffet restaurants I have eaten at, this one is certainly not up there.

I wrote a review of this venue nearly two years ago, and after today's visit for lunch, find that my opinion hasn't changed. Plenty of parking, efficient clearing of tables, and extensive and well prepared buffet selection – ticks all the boxes. I particularly (and still!) enjoy the bratwurst and sauerkraut, and for dessert, the pavlova and cream puffs. There is a lot of seating, the atmosphere is pleasant with soft background music. We will certainly come again.
