Cafe Insomnia - Guelph

We visited Cafe Insomnia this past Sat night with a good friend and our boys and what a pleasure it was ... from the very friendly owners and staff ... to the regular customers (seems like all the same ones every Saturday night) - which should tell you something right away. I ordered a Caprese Salad for starters and what flavors -- everything tasted as fresh as they just picked it from garden ... and my friend and both ordered the pork loin dish done with Gorgonzola and mushroom sauce ... and again what a winning combination ... the meat just melted in your mouth ..... we tend to go to Cafe Insomnia about very 3-4 months and we are never disappointed ... can't wait till the next time.

This restaurant is not what it used to be a few years ago. The table bread was stale to say the least, one of the most important parts of the meal as it is the first thing you eat and sets up your first impression for the rest of your meal. Our drinks arrived with multi-coloured straws...all in mismatched glassware, as were the wine glasses. The menu is extremely limited and food service takes a long time. When our meals did arrive much of it was over cooked, uninspired and seemingly store bought. Our server was nice. The decor is an odd colour of blue throughout and for someone reason an Italian restaurant had Cuban/Mexican portraits lined the entire length of the dining room.

If you like Italian cuisine this is a great place to go. I have only been for lunch but have never been disappointed. They have many Italian regulars seen there frequently so obviously they are endorsing the cuisine by their frequent visits. The service is very good and often it's the owner herself. The food is served in a timely manner and comes hot so no sitting around under heat lamps. It's a fairly small establishment and is almost always busy so go early or make a reservation if you want a table.

|Café Insomnia is a favourite place to have a lunch or special dinner with friends and family. The food is excellent and the service outstanding. Just yummy all 'round!

Attending a family birthday dinner on a busy Saturday night. Every part of the evening was professionally handled by our waitress. Everything on the menu looked very appetizing. Our party of 8 ordered a number of dishes from the mains. Everyone was pleased with their selections with respects to plating and taste.Highly recommend this restaurant.
