The cutlery at this restaurant comes wrapped in a bag pronouncing A Floresta to be, O mais antigo de cidade the oldest in the city . Taking their advertising at face value, the restaurant is far past its prime. I asked the waitress whether the cod fish balls (translating the name of the item from the Portuguese) were made with potato or with bread. She replied, bread . I then told her I needed a meal without gluten and without wheat. As soon as I placed my order, what came to the table? A basket of bread made of wheat flour. This was immediately before she tore out the upper portion of the cork on the wine I 'd ordered by attempting to open it totally carelessly. As it happens, it was quite an excellent bottle. However one of the most costly on their wine list. A bit of attention to the task and this would not have happened. The roast kid was on the menu as a house specialty. I ordered it. The dish was obscenely large, and quite bad. The point of slow cooking kid is to soften the meat. This dish was very tough. I have a very high tolerance level for salt. She Who Must Be Obeyed frequently chides me about it. This dish was terribly over salted. I 've never criticized a dish in a Trip Advisor review for having too much salt. This dish certainly did. To it 's credit, the dish came with lots of broad beans. Unfortunately, they quite badly terrible over cooked. Bits of goat liver were present in the dish but to what purpose I could not tell. They did not seem to have been cooked with the dish itself. I had the pleasure of eating roast kid this past weekend elsewhere in inland Portugal, in a restaurant where the dish was the feature of the menu. There, I was fortunate enough to be squeezed into a small cranney in the bar to savor the meal. This overpriced offering was from an entirely different, and tonight 's meal came from a lesser planet. The waitress ' name I learned from the anguished cries from the kitchen: Maria . Maria wanted to be anywhere else but on the job. Enough said. Now for the good part: I had the pleasure of enjoying a bottle of a 2013 Quinta des Termos, Touriga Nacional. This is a grape variety I cherish, but have never had the pleasure of enjoying on a regular basis. The bottle I had tonight here in Guarda was simply superb. I only wish She Who Must be Obeyed had been along on this trip to share it with me. The platter of kid was padded with an obscene amount of nondescript of potato and rice. The stodge all went back to the kitchen. Well, 90% of it did. The portion of the 14 euro main dish worth eating was about 20% by volume. I ordered a local cheese at 3.50 euros to finish the meal. Delicious, once it came to room temperature. The restaurant couldn 't ruin this. The bottom line: Eat elsewhere. If, for some reason, you can 't, just order a good bottle of wine and some cheese to got with it. You 'll thereby reduce the tariff from 35 euros to 21 euros, and avoid a whole lot of disappointment.
Everyone in the group had different dishes with typical Portuguese food and everyone of them were good. The staff are the owners and so the service is really thoughtful and kind. The next day when were walking by, they offered us a glass of the most amazing ginginha I have ever tasted. It was really nice and memorable.
One of the best meals i had on my stay in Guarda. I eat Chouriçada one great meal of this place and the person it was with me bacalhau com natas both great. It's very well decourated and the food is from the region and deserts are great as well.
Would not recommend this restaurant. Food over cooked. Vegetables awful. Charged for the ‘free items’ which were placed on table and told were free. Please remove as a recommendation. Not authentic Portuguese cuisine.
