We had a great experience at Italian Affair. The ambiance was nice, the hostesses and waitstaff were friendly and attentive and the food was very good. We came in from out of town for a concert at a local university concert hall, so we were seeking a restaurant that was close by and possibly the best we could get in the area. Extensive bar list and menu. Met Giuseppe, the owner, and had an overall great time.
Welcomed to the restaurant by three people at the front desk each less interested than the other in helping us find a seat in a nearly empty restaurant at 4:30 PM on a Saturday. Spent five minutes trying to prove we had a reservation at 4::45 pm (which we finally did show them). Hardly made eye contact and not a single friendly comment with masks covering the smiles we assumed were absent. We should have known what we were in for at the restaurant. We made it through an awkward dinner and asked for the leftovers to be packed with 2 desserts we wanted to bring home. The food left the table and a small plastic bag came back out obviously missing something. We asked if the desserts were with the food or if the food was put in the same container. We were yelled at by the waitress, ?I put everything in there!!? A few minutes later she brought the forgotten items in a separate bag without even a hint of apology or comment. We had seen reviews where the management went ballistic on the reviewers. We thought it was an anomaly, but attitude that evening seems pervasive. The waitress started off super pleasant and literally had her head spinning in a circle at the moment we questioned the small to-go bag. We really wanted to like this cigarette odor laden Italian restaurant and support local business but from front door to doggie-bag we were unpleasantly surprised.
My mother and I were going to go for dinner, but instead opted for lunch and let me say it was no mistake coming here. Our server, Laura, was very knowledgeable about the menu and the available options. She was extremely kind during our whole time there and was prompt to correct an error regarding our check. I think she is close to the owner or somewhat an owner judging by how she explained she had made our dessert, strawberry shortcake with fruit, just the day before. The food was freaking wonderful! Our appetizer was called Caprese something. Never ever had it before but boy it was delicious. My entree, which was called something like Tenderloin Tips , was absolutely stunning. (Photo pictured with ravioli. I was actually quite stunned for the fact it was simply like nothing I 've tasted before. My mother had the chicken parm sandwich which she enjoyed. With my entree I got a soup. It was also delicious, but I forget the name. The bread was also warm and good, an amazing touch was the olive oil provided. The cake mentioned earlier was also lovely, and I don 't even eat cake! The resteraunt was clean with the exception of a lot of flies in the bathroom. Good atmosphere out on the floor; the resteraunt is gorgeous. Our tab was $64.00. Definitely pricey, but worth it with all things considered. Need to go again!
My wife and I had a very good meal. I believe one of the owners served us. She was a extremely friendly and helpful lady. The calamari was crispy, light, soft tasty (basically perfect). The risotto was very rich and creamy (delicious). Everything was very good.
