The service was excellent and the food was amazing we just shared a prawn cocktail started which was pack with beautiful fresh prawns. Then we had a beef espadade and it was cooked to perfection. This restaurant is well worth a visit.
We went to Espaco do Andre for a late lunch; although the lunch hour was over, the staff were all very welcoming. We were given the best table in the restaurant and everybody fussed over our son, making sure he was comfortable and happy. The interior was lovely, the table linen and cutlery and the service beautifully complemented the food. The had a very good set menu as well as a kids' menu which included more than chicken nuggets and fries. The food was well cooked and beautifully presented and served. We had a lovely time and regretted we'd only discovered this gem of a restaurant on our last day in Madeira.
What a find this restaurant was, unfortunately on our last night, isn't that the way. Anyway we were just strolling along looking for some were to eat, having been to Granny's House the night before, do not go there. Back to Andre's my wife and I called in and found the staff more than helpful, very attentive and full of suggestions, my wife had a vegetable soup, which she thoroughly enjoyed, I had tomato soup with a poached egg, little different for me but very tasty, the wife had slow roasted lamb for her mains, she said that this was the best meal she had eaten on this holiday, and I went for a very good sirloin steak, which was also top class. After our visit to Granny's, this restaurant put our faith back into Funchal eatery's and if we visit again we would most definitely make this place, O Espaco do Andre, a must visit restaurant.
This restaurant has only been open for a few weeks and we liked the look of it when we were out looking for something light for lunch. I am vegetarian and I couldn't see anything I wanted on the menu so I asked if I could have a cheese and tomato sandwich. They readily agreed and they brought out a lovelybig fresh round roll like a small loaf) filled with cheese and tomato. My husband chose something from the menu. I had a fresh orange juice and he had a beer. It was very reasonably priced. We did this on two occasions and then decided to visit in the evening. My husband had fish and I had a very wholesome vegetable soup to start with and they made a vegetable gratin type dish for my main course. We also had a very nice bottle of wine. I couldn't get over how friendly and helpful they were and I think they deserve to do well.
Would agree with previous reviewer about both this restaurant and the comments about Granny’s house. Andre’s is a small, quiet restaurant with very helpful staff. We ate there twice during recent holiday. Food was very good, only slight down side is the menu is a bit limited. Overall, highly recommended.
