Service was fine, the lady did mess up a few things(ordered us an extra appetizer, forgot someone's sushi roll) but since we were a party of 8 we just rolled with it. Tuna sashimi was great. Not the best quality in California but for Fresno it was very good. My roll was not what I had hoped, although they do a very light tempura batter compared to other places that have a thick batter that makes it difficult to eat. Everyone seemed pretty happy with the portions/prices. I do love fried cream cheese anything but I would reserve that for another restaurant, this one would be nice for a quick bite of sashimi, tuna or salmon specifically. Love the family owned atmosphere and regulars who are happy and well received is always a great sign!
I was craving sushi, but my usual spots are on the other side of town so I found this spot and wanted to give it a try. They're a smaller establishment with cool decor. There was another party when we were, but it seems like they get a lot of call-in orders. Their sushi seems to not have a lot ingredients. Very simple. I ordered the red and red roll, which is suppose to contain spicy tuna, avocado, green onion, and masago. It had a chili emoji next to the name that it was spicy, but it was far from that. It was so bland. Had no flavor. It didn't have any of those ingredients that it said it did. We also ordered spicy garlic edamames and dumplings. Those two items were okay. The service wasn't bad. Our servers were kind.
The food is fresh and light. The tempura isn't greasy at all, which is a rare find. It's a delight to find something like that when I'm used to having flavorful food all the time in New Orleans. It really reminded me about Japanese food in Japan.
Great good great vibes love the sushi and how they treat you a hidden gem! Should definely give it a try won't regret
Asuka is a quaint, dimly lit space that was about half full when we arrived on a Weds night. They have booth as well as table seating. The service was friendly and prompt. I notice there seem to be at least a couple of parties in there that were regulars as the owner was making friendly small talk with them. We did enjoy the quiet atmosphere and the service. However, we really did not care for the sushi. I got a yellowtail handroll. It was packed with way too much rice and the fish lacked the freshness that I would have hoped for. I also ordered the Honda roll, which was ok. Again, lots of rice and not the freshness I desire. I did enjoy the flavor of the sauce they put on it. My sister had a crunch roll and was not impressed. She only ate a couple of pieces. Again, there was nothing horrible about the rolls. But the overall quality was not what we prefer.
