The Workers Club - Fitzroy

Expensive. Tired. Disappointing. I'd had beers here some years ago, but we've been away from Melbourne and in that time I doubt a single dime has been spent on this place. Yet their prices for spirits are right up there with the classiest bars in the world. And the selection was impressive. I just don't understand how a primarily hipster focused venue thinks such prices are okay, when a couple of well paid businessmen think twice about a second drink. A strange smell was pervasive. We couldn't place it. Stale alcohol mixed with bleach? And then there is the floor. See through but not in a stylish way, gaps between floorboards that move noticeably underfoot. Oh dear. Drinkers may well end visiting a cellar bar by sheer accident one day. A sturdy looking building from the outside, an old corner pub, that is anything but solid in terms of interior and value.

Great wines, staff and atmosphere. Food was ok but the music, wine and beer menus and decor was perfect for meeting place with friends.

Resembles an old fashioned boozer which I assume one day long ago it was ! The main bar is basic with a few tables and bar stools but there is a garden and the atmosphere is friendly. Usual Aussie beer selection and decent inexpensive bar food with the sandwiches at a discount price at weekday lunchtimes. Good value in an expensive City for travellers like myself and worth the trip if walking around the Fitzroy area. We noticed that this is a music venue on some evenings which may be wort checking out.

A nice place where beer is cheap: 2 AUD for 1 pint. The concert of Keggin was good. Public was warmy and engaged.

It is not Wheelchair friendly and I am on automated Wheelchair anyways took a walking stick and went to the bar sat on a chair but mostly Very High Stools because it is obviously a bar... just had a drink and moved to another restaurant for dinner.... they did have a place to eat but it is usually full especially on a weekend ...it is a separate area other than the bar for drinks
