We were very impressed with their fixed menu's. 3 couples all chose the $59 for two special, it included a shared entre of 3 different tastes, yummy. Then choice of 4 mains with sides and choice of 3 deserts, all that plus glass of wine each. Plenty, plenty all very tasty, well presented by friendly staff
I ordered the buffalo wings during their special after 4pm when they're one dollar each. I guess the price was indicative of quality. Chicken wings were fine albeit not being in buffalo sauce, it was a very inoffensive sweetish chutney-esque sauce.. and the "blue cheese ranch" was a runny liquid that did not taste good, I ended up wiping it off my wings. At The Mint Bar and Restaurant the wings are killer and the ranch is thick and made with real blue cheese, the one at Fitzroy social might as well have come out of the packet. As im a buffalo wings fan, this completely missed the mark. Dont bother unless you dont care about your buffalo sauce and blue cheese! I did finish them, and price is cheap so thats good i guess but i bought 8 for $8 and wished i hadnt bothered spending my money.
We were a group of 5 ladies, enjoying a quick afternoon cocktail which were luckily included in the $12 happy hour list. The drinks were flavoursome and nice and we loved the feel of the place. It was quiet as the lunch time diners were gone and it wasn't yet dinner time. We would return.
Interesting venue. Bought a Groupon voucher. 3 courses w sides. Great decor. Big open space. We arrived on a quiet night (Wednesday). Service was friendly and reasonably prompt. Started w a cocktail, well made, small in size for the price. Around 150ml. Beer selection was good lots of boutique style beers. We asked not to be rushed with our meals. Happy to oblige us. Sharing entree was great, pork belly, calamari, arancini balls, Turkish bread. Sauces and butters presented in cute little jars and side plates. Mains:(almost everything had nuts of one type or another, I have a nut allergy) I ordered the salmon w an adapted salad as it also had nuts In it). I was asked how I would like it cooked. I ordered rare to medium. Sadly it was over cook and dry. My husband ordered the burger w Vegemite dressing. We ordered a side of the dressing. The burger was huge and well cooked. You couldn't really taste the Vegemite mayo on the burger. Dipping the fries in the side of Vegemite dressing was a good idea. It was good. The polenta and Parmesan Chips were average. The polenta was diced and deep fried and topped w Napoli and Parmesan. The rocket and pear salad was a bit over dressed. We did eat it but would have preferred a bit less dressing. We had great space between entree and main. We were asked if we could have our desserts as it was quiet and they wanted to close. Happy to oblige. They had 3 wait staff and 4 in the kitchen and the manager. 8 staff for a total of 12 patrons between 7.30-10pm. Desserts (I could only order from a choice of 2 off the list as most had nuts) I ordered a well presented. Caramel popcorn pannacotta , great wobble, perfect. And my husband had the other dessert without nuts a chocolate ganache. Well presented in a glass jar. But was really a chocolate mousse. Good service. Big room. I can imagine on a busy night that it would buzz. Booth seating, table seating, secluded areas would all make for a great atmosphere. Decor was elaborate and great. On a quiet night like ours it did feel a bit open and cold. But overall we had a nice time. Great place to consider with a group.
