Combination of different ingredients is sometimes surprising but blends very well together. Big thank You to the restaurant for having us and making this an exceptional meal.
We had a nice evening at Gommerstuba with a 4 course vegetarian menu with some surprising combinations. Good terras and nice hosts. Around 170fr but if you order wine it will be higher.
With all the great reviews and knowing that it earned 15 points on gault&millau, we wanted to give it a try. The place itself isn't special but the food is good and the staff/owners are really nice. The only drawback is that lot of the meals are with cream, cheese or other fatty ingredients; so when you take 3+ meals course this is quite heavy (more balanced would be good).
Not in the midst of Zurich or Bern, not really close to much at all. Far off in a valley in the canton of Wallis lies this little gem. Reading the menu it was very soon clear that the choice would be the Gourmet's Magic ..(Gourmetzauber) menu. A minimum of two people required and reasonably priced for seven courses. Safe to say that it has been a surprising journey throughout those well-prepared dishes. The amuse bouche was a great little homage to the region itself, with some regional cheese not to be missed. Although again, the ethical viewpoint in mind, it is also very safe to say that the two variations of foie gras were marvelous. The roulade with the plums was a very fine idea. The sea bass with pumpkin and oranges was quite the dream. Well fried and with a deliciously rounded up taste. A good combination that I will certainly remember when cooking at home. As for the rabbit I can only bow to the chef. Having an Alsatian heritage, I grew up with rabbit meat. Once in a while on Sundays it was time for Grandma's rabbit, cooked as a whole. The à point creation we have been served at the Gommerstuba has truly been one of the best main courses I have eaten yet. And yes, I am saying this after having been in some very good restaurants already. But with the flavors, the tenderness, and the degree of doneness they have outdone themselves. The dessert was a little disappointing though. It might just be a matter of taste, but the red cabbage and the seabuckthorn ice cream with the chocolate just didn't work for me. Thumbs up for creativity, but you know what they say about going overboard with things... The ambience and service doesn't keep up with the food, that's for sure. But it does keep up with the town. It fits right in and the staff does so too. Friendly and cozy. I would recommend a stop by to every skiing and hiking tourist in the area who wants to have a special meal. A meal you won't forget.
We were there last winter and had a wonderful menu, the waiter has very attentive and friendly. The wine list was exceptional with a tremendous selection of local wine, with rare sorts of wines from the area. The owner drove us back to our hotel...in Fiesch, when that is not great service, then I don't know what that is.
