Best Poutine in Edmonton and perhaps in Alberta! with real cheese curds not shredded cheese and real poutine sauce not gravy like many or should say most place in Alberta
The Cheese Factory is a bit of a misnomer. Yes, they have different cheeses on the menu and in the deli, but the variety of food to choose from is quite exceptional. Apparently it started out as a Franco-Albertan restaurant and has recently changed hands...to Serbian (or Eastern European) ownership. As a French Canadian home cook, I found the specialties to be very bland and short on meat (in the Pate Chinois-Shepherd's Pie) and the Pate a la Viande (missing the garlic and herb flavor.)Nevertheless, the Poutine was delicious since the proper cheese (squeaky fromage en grain) is used, the fries are crunchy and the gravy is very tasty! We tried several other dishes which were bland...so the operative word is salt or ask for herbs to sprinkle. It's not a fancy restaurant but has a bustling, pleasant atmosphere. I'll keep an eye on it and will go back once the transition is complete.
The poutine is absolutely exceptional. If you are from a small town in Quebec, as I am, you will appreciate that the cheese curds are made in-house and squeaky, which in my opinion is one of the most important elements of a good quality poutine. This high quality of a poutine outside of Quebec was an incredible find and it was 3 blocks away from my home!Be prepared to spend $11 for a large poutine, which I devour entirely every time.As the Cheese Factory is near a university campus, expect this place to be packed during lunch time.
Always so good and friendly and oh so fast service! The exact authentic yummy poutine recipe! Fantastic diversified shop including imported food and made on site cheese! I cannot get enough of this place! CLOSED ON SUNDAYS AND MONDAYS
