Berties Proper Fish Chips Old Town

The fish and chips at this restaurant are amazing. Even my wife, who can eat gluten, said that the gluten free version was tastier because it was less bready. They also have a great selection of beers available.

I discovered the only restaurant that offers a replacement for malt vinegar. The portions were delicious and generous.

We spent the weekend in Edinburgh and my son has Celiac disease. The service at the restaurant and for home delivery was excellent. Highly recommend!

Good crispy battered fish! Chips were nothing special but everything was done in a dedicated fryer so it was safe. Made a reservation before eating with a note about being celiac. Staff made sure I knew gluten-free menu items and their safety precautions. Waitress was really helpful in double checking which drinks were gluten-free. The restaurant was also really good in accommodating a dairy allergy for my friend.

Very good fish and chips! They have a dedicated fryer, which is perhaps the best phrase someone could say to me. Servers were kind and told us which order was gluten free when they set it down.
