Woodland Creatures - Edinburgh, City of

First of all, Cara is a champion. She handled the entire floor and was really friendly when they were absolutely slammed. This is a cute place with a cosy couch in addition to bar, high and low tables, nice drink selection, pub grab, and dog-friendly. Would come back for drinks any evening!

Went here with friends for something to eat and a few drinks over a catch up. Menu looked fab and varied, we all opted for different things . I ordered a small plate of Mac n cheese with salad and a potion of chips. When it arrived it was larger than I expected. I ate some salad then took some Mac n cheese but something grabbed my attention…….it was a bluebottle trying to fight it’s way out from underneath my salad! I felt sick! I went told the waiter who apologised and took my plate away but I kept the Mac n cheese as I was starving but really couldn’t stop thinking about what could’ve been. He took the Mac n cheese off our bill. I certainly wont be returning nor will my 3 friends.

Sunday roast was excellent value for money and delicious. They were especially generous with the meat and those of us that went for the veggie option really enjoyed that too. Thank you woodland creatures!

He booked for four and noted in the reservation it was for Sunday roast. However, when we arrived and after we were seated, we were told the roasts were sold out. Whilst the staff member acknowledged we’d booked for four roasts, he said he couldn’t hold them for us as we hadn’t stipulated if we wanted beef or chicken. We weren’t asked what meat we wanted at booking or anytime after. Had we know we’d have happily made our choices. The restaurant knew we wanted roasts though and didn’t bother to reach out to ask for this information in advance of our reservation, i’m not sure what they thought was going to happen when we arrived. A simple call earlier in the day could have resolved matters. We were really quite disappointed and left. No apology from anyone either which was poor. We headed to another local restaurant who were able to accommodate us on my birthday. In the current climate I thought businesses such as this would be more organised and accommodating eager to make money. They lost out on a fairly large order. After drinks and four three course meals, we gave another establishment in excess of 250 and made a booking for ten for next weekend. We won’t be back in afraid.

We had to wait for over 30 minutes for our food, even though it was in the afternoon and not during peak lunch hours. Sadly, the fish had no taste at all. Both the batter and the fish itself were not seasoned. I had to request ketchup for my fries, which only arrived after a reminder. When I asked for a doggy bag because I didn't want to finish my meal, the waiter said they were unable to provide one. I cannot suggest this restaurant to others.
