Having been here for last ten years.. Have to say this place hit rock bottom for service.. Waiting staff making rules on the fly. Cleanliness missing and no courtesy .. Better go to Chinese takeaway than coming here.. DON'T waste ur time money... For OK OK service ....
Not suitable for a quick bite; most things on the menu are quite expensive. As said by many other reviews, the service here can be horrible (waitress telling you to wait all the time and you being ignored a lot); my order was taken just before my patience ran out (at the same time five+ customers were waiting by the door to be taken to their seats while a lot of the seats here were not occupied and yet no waiters saw to them at all actually that made me feel I should be grateful that I was seated&had got a menu in my hands)
My order was : Tom Kha Gai soup Steamed Edemame beans. 1.Soup is missing half of ingredients no line leaves, no coriander, no lemongrass. But there were some improvisation by Cher Igor by adding red onions, why ? 2.Beans steamed no salt or pepper, price 4.50€ When I asked cashier girl for salt she answered that they don't have salt sachets in takeaway. Won't order there anything again.
Mao used to have the luxury of being one of the only Asian fusion chains in Ireland, and people loved it (myself included). But I now feel that It doesn't compare with other Asian fusion competitors (Wagamama's comes to mind). The service was dreadful and the waitress seemed really angry, almost throwing our food and drink at us. I had the only vegetarian option on the menu, veg sweet and sour.. which consisted of a bowl of veg, hardly any tofu in a watery liquid attempting to pass as sweet and sour sauce. The OH had chili ramen which was pretty standard, nothing to write home about. The bill came to about €30 for two mains, one alcoholic drink and one soft drink, which I thought was a bit ridiculous. Mao need to stop charging celtic tiger prices and develop a flexible menu (ie. in other competing Asian Fusion places, you can order any meat dish and sub in tofu.. no questions asked). Polite waiting staff wouldn't go a-miss either.
