So booked early for New Years Day lunch, a choice of 2 set menus, we choose 35 euros, delicious like only the French...can do. Excellent service, not rushed just perfect.
I used to live in Dinan about 20 years ago and have visited it often since and have always lunched at the Cantorbery when doing so. I checked on Tripadvisor this time and it was rated 14th but as we are in France and as...we are in Brittany I assumed that the other 13 were all creperies. Don't understand the obsession. If I want a pancake I'll make it myself. Anyway... The welcome was cordial as ever and we were met with the reassuring smell of the open fire. There was a set menu for 23 euros but none of it appealed to my wife or me so we went to the card. The amuse bouche as it turns out was the best of it. A beetroot soup with the addition of balsamic vinegar and tabasco and quite delicious. We both started with a sort of spring roll with shredded rabbit and vegetable and a side salad. It was pleasant enough but desperately lacked seasoning and we both had a shard of bone which could have lead to dental repair had we bitten down on them. We then both had the entrecote as we'd eaten quite a bit of fish recently and apart from veal kidneys steak is it for meat. The steak was fine and cooked as requested but all of the accompanying vegetables tasted the same which was of nothing and the puree was cold and unpleasant. The accompanying bearnaise did nothing to improve things. For dessert, and at 10 euros each, my wife had a sort of millfeuille with strawberries and creme anglaise and I had a shortcake biscuit with a slice of apple on top, some vanilla ice cream and salted caramel sauce. Both OK but at that price they should have been a lot better. Service was good as was the coffee. Our bill was 121 euros which included just one small glass of wine. So a reliable old favourite is struck off the list. Maybe next time I'll go for a crepe!

Très pro super bon faut faire le détour ouvert un lundi
We are here this evening and everything was truly amazing, I had fish soup to start which was one of the best fish soups I have ever had, my wife did not have a starter. I had Sea Bass with a beautiful sauce for main, my wife have Entrecôte steak with bernaise sauce both were cooked to perfection, we couldn't manage deserts as we had lunch earlier but what other customers had look equally as good. Staff very friendly and spoke good English. The downside is that we were staying at the port and had a long climb up the cobblestones and it was a really hot day so we arrived very hot. Well worth the climb and would definitely come back again very soon. Colin
