The Monarch Club - Detroit

Everytime I come here I have a fantastic experience. From the moment I step off the elevator to when I say my goodbye, it’s amazing. The Whitefish Patè is excellent. The blood orange sorbet is rich. But what blows everything away are the phenomenal bar staff. These bartenders pull from a wide range of experience and a wealth of knowledge to serve you something you didn’t even know you wanted. They all carry good conversation as well. Katrel is probably by far the best bartender in the City of Detroit and The Monarch Club is one of the best bars in the world.

Simply put if you haven’t been, you need to go. Monarch is by far my favorite spot to enjoy a cocktail and view in Detroit and you cannot beat sitting fireside while overlooking Woodward, Fox, Opera house, Comerica, Ford Field, and the DAC all from the same patio!

Positives: The receptionist was amazing. Can’t beat the views. Drinks were great.Negatives: Horrible service.Came to celebrate an achievement in my wife’s life. Had a reservation for 1.25 hours prior to close. Took 30 minutes to get our first interaction with the waitress. We ordered 2 drinks right away. Took another 25 minutes to get our drinks. We never saw the waitress again until we were handed the bill at closing with nothing said. Never any word of last call. Never even confirmed that we were doing okay. Overall just a bummer of an experience that was supposed to be a celebration.

Very cool location. Which is the best thing about this establishment. Pulled up and the valet (for the building in which the bar resides) advised they were not offering valet service for the Monarch Club. Left a message with said establishment as I could not speak to anyone live. Found additional parking accommodations, arrive at the establishment to wait in the “waiting” area for a gentleman to ask us if we had reservations. Waited an additional 10 minutes for someone to ask us if we had reservations again. We then were taken to our table where we waited for 15 minutes for service. Server came and took our order. Waited 15 20 minutes for our cocktails. The hubs’ Manhattan had a black orange peel. I mean wouldn’t you notice that as you’re preparing a $20 cocktail? My drink was awesome the Mr. And Mrs. Jade Spritz. Second round was a bit quicker. All in all it left much to be desired, but I’ll give it one more try.

My husband and I had 3 cocktails each on the rooftop terrace. The views are impeccable. We came at sunset and I highly recommend visiting this place for at a least a drink. We did not try the food this visit. The cocktails we had were very delightful and tasteful! They are a bit more pricey, but they are made well.
