I recently attended trivia night at Buttonwoods Brewery, and while I had a blast testing my knowledge, there was an unexpected drawback that left me somewhat conflicted.First off, let me say that the trivia night was a blast! The questions were engaging, and the atmosphere was lively. However, I couldn't help but notice that my enjoyment was tinged with discomfort as my nose started feeling like it was on fire, and my eyes began to water over the course of the two-hour event. Why, you ask? Well, it turns out that Buttonwoods Brewery has a kitchen right in the middle of the establishment complete with a fry cook station. Sounds cool, right? Except there's no ventilation in this kitchen, and no windows or oven vents to let out the cooking fumes. As the night went on and food orders piled up, the air quality took a nosedive. The brewery only has bay windows that are, unfortunately, inoperable for the casual visitor to open. This meant that as the evening progressed and the kitchen got busier, the air got thicker and less pleasant. Gradually, it felt like we were all inhaling more than just the excitement of trivia.Curiously, I chatted with one of the bartenders, who confirmed that yes, the air does get bad, and they resort to opening a window when it gets unbearable. But what's the plan for a more permanent solution? Opening windows won't work so well in the winter.I understand that the new kitchen setup might still be a work in progress, but in my opinion, this goes beyond a minor inconvenience. It feels like a potential health concern. All it might take is a bit of ventilation or an air purifier to turn things around. I've checked, and some top-rated air purifiers are affordable, around $50 according to recommendations from sources like Wirecutter.I'm no expert, but I can't help but wonder if this situation might even border on a health code violation. Good air quality is essential for everyone's comfort and well-being. I hope Buttonwoods Brewery takes this feedback constructively and considers investing in better air circulation or purification—it's an easy fix that could make a world of difference. Thanks for reading, and here's to better trivia nights ahead!Brendan
