Babcock Story - Coronado

There’s nothing quite as frustrating as poor service when you’re trying to enjoy your Sunday. We were second in line to order drinks, and when it was finally my wife’s turn, the bartender told her to go to a different line. We couldn’t help but notice that the only person who received their drink before her was a white male, while my wife, a woman of color, was essentially denied service and told to go to the back of the line. Whether this was about sexism, racism, or both, it reflects poorly on the bartending staff. Such behavior is completely unacceptable in 2022, and they really need to do better.

I had lunch here, and unfortunately, the burger made both me and two friends very ill just 30 minutes after eating. I definitely do not recommend risking food poisoning from a $30 burger.

A great spot for drinks and lunch! The view of the Pacific is stunning, and they have live music in the evenings.

We thought the drinks were quite expensive, but we decided to have a drink because of the intentional and atmosphere. bad choice. both drinks, blue californian and the mai tai were literally disgusting. oh, good, enjoyed our visit at the hotel regardless of it.

This historic hotel is a treat to experience and recommend all to check out, especially if you love the beach. We ended up (party of 8) at the Babcock and Story Bar for a drink or two. Cocktails were good and their house blonde Hotel del California “Some like it blonde” ale was terrific. I highly recommend this beer. We had sodas, drinks, and a few rounds of french fries. You come here paying for location and experience (plus it’s a So. Cal. hotel so it going to be pricey). The service was ok at best. The spot appears to be understaffed and considering your paying $8 for a soda refills were tough to come by. Server was somewhat friendly but hustling around what seemed to be most of the place during a sort of busy time of day (lunch time on a Sunday). Overall a nice time and I would probably come back as it’s a special experience. If you go be prepared for lackluster service, overpriced items, and be prepared to wait…but while you wait enjoy the amazing view and great weather at this historic spot.
