We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and thought the show would be enjoyable, even if the food wasn’t that great. What a delightful surprise it turned out to be! The waitress was friendly, and the chef was both talented and approachable. I ordered the Ikkyu so I could sample several entrees, and they were all delicious. My husband chose the filet mignon, which was also outstanding. We can’t wait to return!
This charming little restaurant is located on the border of Corona and Riverside, just off McKinley and the 91 Freeway. While the sushi menu isn’t extensive, it offers a good variety of options. The sushi bar staff is very friendly, and the chefs are happy to create almost any dish you ask for. The main dining area feels a bit sterile, but the teppanyaki tables are a great choice for larger groups. Overall, the value is excellent—about 30% cheaper than the average sushi place, with very fresh ingredients. It's worth a visit; a couple can easily dine for around $50.
On Mother's Day, the restaurant opened a bit early for us and another family that arrived just before the official opening. Shogun is a teppanyaki steakhouse that offers the full experience typically found at this type of restaurant. They add some visual flair with lights and sound effects, which can come off as a bit cheesy. For instance, the classic onion volcano involved turning off the main lights, activating a strobe light, and using a smoke pipe for added effect. The service was prompt and attentive; our water glasses were constantly full, and our server was always prepared with the next item. I ordered a drink called The Castle, made with rum, brandy, peach schnapps, grenadine, and pineapple juice, blended to a shade reminiscent of a Japanese sunrise. It was presented in a charming white pagoda glass that I had to hold carefully.
