Salad was average. It was nice that my husband was able to get his breakfast at 12:30pm. They didn't have eggs benedict he wanted but we were told they will start serving it shortly.Best part of this restaurant is its beautiful setting.Great place to sit down after a stroll of the beautiful park and visiting the gift shop.
We visited the Summer Kitchen a number of times in the spring and summer of 2016. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. They had bad weather to contend with in the summer of 2016, which made it hard for them. The food arrived fresh and was very tasty and very affordable. We suggested for next year, they could have a higher end menu for evenings with special events, i.e. music night, an impromptu theatre night, Moroccan night, etc. It is an amazing location, ambiance and a treat for us.
This summer, my husband and I went for lunch at the Filberg Summer Kitchen. In previous years we have enjoyed delicious food while taking in the spectacular views at this lovely venue. The first visit was not long after they opened for the summer - service was slow and the food mediocre. The second and third times, we returned hoping things had improved, but unfortunately...not really. The food is quite overpriced for what it is and I honestly can't say I was raving about it. The potato salad was under seasoned, expensive and bland, and the burgers were ordinary. The last time was the killer...a shamboholic experience with a disorganized, far-too-verbose person taking the orders, food showing up a bit at a time, which was irritating as there is no table service. To top it off, as our burgers cooled off at the table, we were informed the local wine we ordered with our lunch, at $9 a glass, had not been chilled so we were offered a (chilled) substitute from their very limited selection. Fail. The wine was fine, but that is not the point. It was just the final flourish in a series of not-so-impressive events. If you are going to charge people a reasonable amount of money for food and drink, at least make sure their expectations are partly met. Staff should be learning from their mistakes - not repeating the same ones all summer. Unfortunately a "bad taste" has been left in the mouths of those of us who have had better experiences there in the past years. It also served as a terrible showcase for the caterer running it, mostly let down by the staff.Hopefully next summer will be better.
The tea house has changed owners and now known as Filberg Summer Kitchen. A beautiful setting and one walks through the park to the eating area, which is very basic.Too bad one can't eat the extensive views! My lunch was mediocre and I trashed all but a few sample bites of the sandwich. I had ordered the Filberg special, which consisted of an English muffin, fried egg, bacon, tomato, avacado, lettuce and pan fries. The advertised "toasted" muffin was NOT. Advertised avacado missing. Pan fries cold and the few I did try laced with garlic. Fried egg in muffin totally unappealing as was barely warm. The whole so called special was a disaster. I threw all in the trash container and walked away. Could not even be bothered to complain. Now that is bad! If you go to this lovely park, I suggest taking your own picnic lunch and thus enjoy all that nature has to offer there. I cannot recommend Summer kitchen.
Summer in Comox wouldn't be complete without a few visits to the Filberg Teahouse. I have also hosted garden-party events here, including a meet & greet the night before my wedding for guests.
