It’s a cozy spot with a truly passionate chef. I'm so glad I decided to eat here. The food was fantastic; we tried the chicken chimichanga, vegetable quesadilla, chicken taco, and pineapple cake, and everything was delicious. The prices were the best I've ever seen, and the portions were enormous—especially the chimichanga, which was massive! Be sure to call ahead for the tres leches dessert; it’s pure bliss. Just remember to bring cash, as they don’t accept cards. The chef speaks English, so feel free to ask him anything!
The tortillas in the tacos we ordered clearly came from a package and weren’t freshly made, which was disappointing. The beef tasted like it had been refrigerated and then microwaved — it was extremely chewy and not flavorful at all. We didn't hear any sizzling or smell the beef cooking, either. Additionally, the bread wasn’t fresh and was rock hard. To top it off, the bathroom looked like something out of a horror movie. I probably won’t be coming back to this place.
The el pastor tacos were the best I've ever had. (Second best were from a mom and pop restaurant in a large Hispanic neighborhood in Chicago. The owner can cook AND bake! His chips and 4 sauces (complimentary were delectable. The empanadas, coconut cookies, and rolls were perfection. I wish I lived nearby; I'd eat there several times per week!
I imagine, this is what it would be like if I had a mexican grandpa to cook for me. The bakery goods are phenomenal as well ??
Wow! The tacos are absolutely incredible! The hot sauce is fantastic, and the service is outstanding! I recently relocated to CJ, and I have no intention of dining anywhere else in town! I haven't had tacos this delicious since my time in New York City!
