Furthermore this place is disgusting the hygiene of this place is terrible. The place is dirty, the toilet is nearly in the eating space, the sink is literally in the eating space. While we were there the waitress went to the toilet, washed her hands only with a bit of water (no soap) and after that served the customers their food. Horrible. I hope I don 't get sick. On top of it all we 've waited over 45 minutes for our food to arrive while it wasn 't even busy.
We went to this restaurant recently. Despite a two person table being available we were asked to wait outside. That's ok it must be reserved we thought. Eventually we were ushered inside. A number of breads and cheese placed on the table as is the custom in many restaurants,a bottle of wine and food ordered. An hour passed by which time we had almost finished the wine and the cheese and bread. The food arrived which was ok. Nothing special but reasonable. At the end of the evening we asked for the bill. After initially tallying up the bill next to the table the owner decided to complete the bill next to the cash register. The bill was 10 euros exactly, scribbled and difficult to read more than the cost of the menu. As we only ordered a main course and a each and a bottle of house wine this did not seem like an error and it seems hard to believe that the owner wasn't aware that the bill was incorrect. When the incorrect total was pointed out there was a nudge of the shoulder and a smile . The initial table also remained empty all night. My advice don't go if it is busy as there is obviously only one cook and scrutinise your bill.
Family conducted restaurant in the heart of Coimbra. If you are willing to find an informal atmosphere, interact more with gestures than with words (unless you speak Portuguese), go back in time when your grand ma prepared the meals for you, then you are in the right place. Don’t go if you are looking for something formal or sophisticated.
We made the mistake of turning up for dinner at this place. As soon as we got in, I knew it was a mistake as there were no other diners. The lady took our order. We waited ages while she disappeared behind the bar. When she came out, the food looked nice, but it was her own dinner which she sat and ate at the next table to us in the most leisurely way possible. Eventually she got up and filled a bottle of wine from a carton and gave it to us. Then she microwaved some caldo verde for us. It wasn't like any other caldo verde we'd ever eaten. This was thin and tasteless with luridly green frozen spinach, not the usual local greens which are more like spring cabbage. Then in our full view, she microwaved a pot of chanfana and served it with some reheated boiled potatoes. That was all. The stewed goat was vile: stringy meat in sauce with a thick layer of grease on the top The potatoes tasted stale. My partner ate a little and I ate even less. The lady asked us if we enjoyed the meal and we said no. She shrugged and gave us the bill. We should have checked the reviews.
The food was not good, the atmosphere was terrible. Don't go to this restaurant, in Coimbra there are a lot of good restaurants, but not this one!
