We came here for breakfast a couple of times. The food is okay, not outstanding. I had the chilaquiles and a mushroom omelette. The coffee is quite week, but that's kind of par for the course in Mexico, although they grow great coffee near here. The view is very nice of the plaza.
El Portal is located right above the zócalo in Cuetzalan which makes it a perfect place to see the comings and goings in town. Being a vegetarian there was little I could eat on the menu so I settled for a tuna salad which was just okay. There were local dishes on the menu but unfortunately I couldn't eat any of them. I only ate there one time due to the limited menu. It would probably be fine if you eat meat or chicken.
Thought the food was pretty good. The view overlooking the market square, very busy with Dia de los Muertos and the Voladores, was impressive. It's not like there are a lot of great options in downtown Cuetzalan, and this is probably one of the best for atmosphere. Our meals were actually quite good. I had a pipian (pumpkin seed) mole over chicken and my cousin had mushroom crepes. This place was worth visiting, and as last time a few years ago, lingering over beers and appetizers for lunch.
