I visited the Chelsea Heights Hotel with a large group of friends (total 12 guests). I was impressed with the way they had set up the tables - instead of one long table where conversation is difficult, they had set up a large square table, which meant that talking to everyone, not just the people right next to you, was easier. The bar in the middle of the bistro was only sporadically manned to begin with. By the time we'd been there for about 30 minutes there was a bartender permanently in place though.Ordering food was a long process. The staff taking the orders at the cash register were working as hard as they could, but the queue to order still took about 15 minutes to get through. I was also disappointed to see that they no longer offer garlic prawns - I was actually looking forward to them! When the food came out, there were mixed reactions. Several people had ordered the calamari, and they all said it was delicious. One person had the warm lamb salad, which she said was cold and tough. One other person and myself both ordered the avocado chicken. It was very disappointing. The veggies were very nice, and the bacon wrapped around the chicken was also tasty. However the chicken was bone dry. I thought maybe it was just mine that was like that, but my friend said hers was the same. We both ended up eating everything except for the chicken itself.Overall, it was an average experience. The bistro was very cold - all of us ended up leaving our jackets on while we ate! It was also very noisy, but considering that it is a family-friendly restaurant, that is to be expected. I would go back again, but I will definitely wear warm clothes and not order the chicken.
I ordered a beef pie from the menu that came with mash and buttered veggies. The veggies weren't buttered, just steamed, which isn't a problem but they had no flavour. The piece of pumpkin tasted water-logged. Then the mash! For heaven's sake! I think it was glue! Nothing but flour and water!!! I don't even think there was potato in there!!! The pie was awful. Gravy was just dumped on top, almost drowning the pie. And when I cut the pie open, there were very few pieces of beef inside - just more thickened gravy. I'm shocked! And for $20! Really shocked. How does this place survive??Service was pleasant. But I feel sorry for the employees. They must have to deal with complaints all the time...
Arrived for a family birthday celebration and totally disappointed, honestly the staff were great but even they were embarrased about the obvious under-staffing level for a Saturday evening, the bar had one person [yes just one] coping with up to 20 people trying to order drinks, absolute chaos and not his fault, obviously there's management issues here. At the kitchen there was one girl taking orders, whilst waiting for customers to peruse the menu at the register = an honest 6 minute delay and a queue of over 17 people... Our food was delivered haphazardly [table of 14] and the birthday Nana received hers after we'd finished AND they'd ordered before anyone else... Time for us to find a family friendly venue offering great old fashioned service and food.
We were there at me opening time on Sunday for breakfast. The service was fine as was the "big breakfast", poached eggs asked for soft and coffee hot and both were spot on.One big gripe...please, please do away with the cutting boards and serve on a nice clean plate!! Hate my yolk running away into old cuts on a wooden serving board.☹
