Brambles - Chelmsford

Eating here was always good and cheap. on certain days is full. good traditional kitchen and large portions

At the first sight brambles looks a small old school. the restaurant is often busy, a little dated regarding decor and design, and all they will see is a sea of white haired customers. they look a little harder, and they know that it is because not many. the people know about this jewel and when they do, they stay with it. the portions are huge. the service is super friendly. the menu is diverse and everything appears homemade before location, but it must be said it concentrates more on hot dinners and has less options when they eat after a light bite to lunch. the prices are very reasonable for what they get. if they are good after a great meal for lunch, it saves them cooking later, right? they can not go far wrong with a visit in brambles.

I have been here once before and had a nice cafe type meal, this time, however the food was terrible and my mother who”treated us” to lunch there got quite upset. Her Shepherds pie was pale so not baked in the oven and was quite...cold, the lasagne had the same meat mixture as the shepherds pie was tasteless and just warm. My husband had a cheese scone as he said nothing appealed to him especially the old fish, and the dried up liver. Definitely an off day. Access to the cafe involved slopes and steps even though there is a lift to the first floor so quite unsuitable for its clientele. Will never go here again.

We found this restaurant by accident. We were out shopping and discovered the store had a coffee shop/restaurant. On further exploration we discovered it wasn't just sandwiches and snacks. The meals are well cooked and well presented and extremely good value. We were there for...Sunday Lunch, roast beef and all the trimmings. Very tasty and well presented.

We always like to pop into Brambles for a bit to eat when in Chelmsford. The staff are amazing, so helpful friendly. There is a wide selection of food drinks on offer. Prices are about average for main meals, which we tend to...have. Always clean tidy. One criticism the garden peas are always hard. Would say need longer cooking or better quality peas.
