Today, we ordered a chicken pot pie and an apple cinnamon pie, each priced at $30. The filling of the chicken pot pie resembled Chinese food in terms of appearance, texture, and flavor, and it had an excessive amount of diced potatoes, which seemed like a way to cut costs. As for the apple pie, it was merely average. For $30, I expected more, especially since a frozen Marie Callender’s apple pie is just as delicious and costs under $10. I really don’t understand why anyone would return for another visit.
I'm very sad to hear that the Pie Chest is closing, but I'm also excited for them as they begin a new chapter. I'm grateful they're offering one last Pie Academy, which gives me a chance to learn my favorite pie recipe. Now comes the tough decision of picking which one that will be. We decided to drop by and grab a few slices to help narrow it down. We enjoyed slices of pineapple crumble, Oreo, and banoffee. So far, the banoffee is in the lead!
The Pie Chest is one of those Charlottesville-esque hidden gems. Unfortunately I didn't know how much of a gem it was/is until recently. Highly recommend the apple pie, but you can never go wrong with any of the chocolate pie creations, esp chocolate whiskey. I haven't been able to find another pie/dessert place that comes close.
Airy friendly this is also the location for Lone Light Coffee . Four 3-tops inside, two 2-tops outside. Sweet and Savory pies in display cases, coffee, soda, and bourbon vanilla ice cream ! Friendly, gracious service.
