I can honestly say I've never had scallops anywhere else that were cooked so perfectly! This restaurant was one of the pioneers in the area to offer 'Farm to Table' and 'Sea to Table' menu choices. The freshness of the ingredients truly made a difference! One of our favorites was the chef's version of Shrimp and Grits – simply delicious! And let’s not forget the vegetarian dish with mushrooms, Black Forbidden Rice, and Farro, which I often enhanced with a piece of fish. Oh, and the oysters—can't leave those out, they were amazing! Now I'm craving all of these dishes! I digress… Craig Love and his team are fantastic, and I've always wanted to support his business since we both come from the same hometown, Richmond, VA. I’m really looking forward to the next restaurant concept he comes up with and can’t wait to see the new menu and try all the dishes!
Been there, done that. Lived there, miss that! If you like great cocktails and gourmet cuisine with a hard to find ambience, Coast is by far the best restaurant on Pleasure Island. Their lobster salad is to die for. Damn, I miss that.
Great food, our server was very attentive!! I'm always on the hunt for a gluten friendly restaurant, and this place gets it all right!! Delicious cocktails, hush puppies were good, the shrimp and grits were so tasty! Happy to have found this restaurant and can't wait to come back. Try it!
We've dined with this chef--and in his restaurants at this location--for years. From its first iteration as a surf shop on one side and a sandwich shop on the other to the Surf House with high-end sea/farm-to-table fare, and now to Coast, the food has always been exceptional. It still is! But the name is mis-leading. Calabash is a town in SE North Carolina known for serving large plates of generically fast-fried seafood. Oysters, shrimp, scallops, fish--it all tastes the same...and it has nothing in common with Coast! Subtleties of preparation and flavor, the best and highest use of the area's freshest seafood and produce--it's all exceptional. Please don't let the name postpone your trip to this wonderful restaurant.
We've been coming here for a few years and have loved it. The rebrand to coast was understandable so ok. The food is no longer high quality however. One entree tasted like freezer not what you expect for a $28 entree. The other was bland and uninspired. Our meal was comped but it's just Disappointing to see because we've loved going here. Service and cocktails were great as usual. Looking at the owner's comments on some of these reviews is revealing. Doubt we will be back.
