Corries Bistro - Carlow

The food at this hotel bar is incredible. I stayed at the hotel for 4 nights and dined here every evening. While it may not be high-end luxury cuisine, the traditional pub food like burgers, fish and chips, and pizza is of excellent quality, delicious, generously portioned, and great value for money.

I had a family meal at this restaurant and it was awful! I enjoyed the Caesar salad, but my sister's goats cheese bruschetta with char grilled veg was terrible. The vegetables were stewed and soggy, and there was hardly any cheese. The chicken wings were bland. I think I had the best starter out of the group. Moving on to the main courses, it was a disaster. I ordered the beef and Guinness pie, which was served in an oval dish and had no Guinness in it. It looked like a messy bowl of stew with mashed potatoes on top. Two of my party members ordered half a roast chicken, which tasted like it was straight out of the microwave and was served with bland mashed potatoes. My vegetarian sister had only one option on the menu, a vegetarian red curry that was overly spicy and tasted like it had too much curry powder. Overall, it was a terrible experience and I will not be returning to this so-called bistro.

Great menu caters well for families, good selection of drinks and fantastic service in a relaxed atmosphere.

Had food in the bar area as opposed to the restaurant. Was particularly difficult to get attention for some drinks firstly. Had to wait about 10 minutes at the bar for a drink. there were no other customers waiting at this point but an awful lot of paperwork been attended to behind the bar. There was another table at the bar who were paying for their bill x 4, and each were paying separately and this was causing quite an amount of confusion for staff with three ppl sorting it out.
