Went here for steak night with friends. Atmosphere and pub were great, but sadly, the steaks were so covered with charcoal that was all you could taste on the plate. Medium rare and a lovely Sirloin cooked well but covered in black burnt oven grease so the whole plate just tasted of charcoal. Ended up eating the sides from the separate bowl. Not the place for steaks, unfortunately. All other food looked great.
Have been to The Granville many times but not recently, decided to go again as we were staying in Canterbury and the food was always very good. This time we were sadly very disappointed. We started with ham croquettes which were very small, there were three of them for £7.50. Not good value but they tasted nice, so far not too bad. I chose 'catch of the day ' fish for my main course as it was whole pan fried plaice. What appeared on my plate was a horror show, a small black plaice with no floured coating, the head still attached but folded horribly, a big chunk cut away which I assumed was the gut, it looked completely unappealing. It was so small it should have been thrown back in the sea for growing a bit more. There was barely any flesh on it but the taste was OK as it was a freshly caught fish but the presentation was disgusting. My partner chose lamb which tasted OK but again, presented very badly. The shared dessert was a chocolate mousse with ice cream, the chocolate concoction was so solid it seemed almost like it been taken from a freezer. The Granville has gone down dramatically in my estimation, I doubt we 'll go again.
A very nice upmarket traditional English country pub on the outskirts of Canterbury in a rural setting, Good food, and service. Plenty of parking. Card payments only. Not cheap but you don't expect it to be, we had 4x the most expensive Sunday roast dinner on the menu which is the Mixed Roast at £24 each, 6 Beers, 2 wines, 2 pint Lemonades and 2 desserts and the bill came to £167,50. Recommended.
Sunday roast was delicious, very fast service , great food and lovely atmosphere.
