フィードバックを提供するThis was my first time dining at an Indian restaurant where I sat down to eat. I was fortunate to have someone with me who had a lot of experience. The food was amazing, the portions were perfect, and the owner was attentive and made sure we were enjoying everything and had everything we needed. At one point, he even jokingly tried to warn us not to order too much food!
The food at this restaurant is fantastic and authentic. We ordered three vegetarian side dishes - butter paneer, kashmiri aloo, and tamarind aubergine - which were all delicious and well-spiced. The flavors and depth of understanding in each dish were exceptional. The staff were friendly and lovely.
I ordered Masala Dosa and Rasam Dal, which were excellent. However, I did not enjoy the chutney as it was too runny and milky for my liking. I prefer a thicker consistency with grated coconut, more coriander, and green chillies. The Paneer Kati Roll was a bit disappointing as I was expecting a whole wheat roti type wrap but instead got a supermarket-bought wrap, which felt uncooked and sticky. The filling was okay, but not something I would order again. The Panchmel Dal was also not to my taste, as it was very bland compared to the Rasam Dal. I would suggest having the Rasam Dal available to order separately from the dosa as it was the standout dish for me. Overall, the service was very good and the food (especially the dosa) was excellent for a first-time order.
Summary: The food was good, but not the best in town . My experience at Vedanta was based around its listing as the #6 best restaurant in Cambridge on Tripadvisor. It is not that. We shared a few different dishes starters dosas were tasty and well plated, and the mains were interesting enough, although a little less flavoursome. Staff were attentive and friendly, though they missed part of the order. The venue is a very small dining area with quite a few tables, but feels unintentionally cramped rather than cosy, and a bit dingy. The food might have been above the (rising quality) average, but the rest of the experience was definitely just in the middle.
Wanted to have dosa and after a lot of research came up with Vedanta. It already had a high rating and I must say the place deserves it. Very easy to locate though they don't have parking. For lunch the place was a bit empty but I guess for dinner you need to book a table before hand. The food was really good, a very good ambience with good traditional Carnatic music playing on the day I went and good, behaved and friendly staff. The food is a derivative of sauces primarily but good nonetheless. Just a heads up, the kulfi isn't like what we get in India and that's probably in order to adjust for any other pallettes apart from Indian.
