The Smokehouse - Calgary

Went twice for separate birthdays. First time was a 5 star big portions, flavorful, nice staff. 2nd time was a 1 star, half the portions, flavorless, still nice staff. Don't know if was a different chef but two different dining experiences. Will try again but that will determine being a regular or just popping in for a quick caesar.

Went to the smokehouse to celebrate a birthday. First time there and from the moment we walked in the service was excellent. Friendly staff. Ordered (2) platters and even with 4 teenage boys there was more than enough food. We will definitely be going back. Food was excellent.

Cornbread is brought out to each table. The flavor and texture was really good but there were cold spots throughout the bread so it left me wondering how fresh they were and how they reheated them. Cocktail Dark and stormy was excellent Appetizer Battered pickles were delicious probably the best I have ever had Main course we had one of the meat boards with brisket and ribs the ribs were very dry and overdone, the brisket was quite good except some pieces were dry. The sides we had were Mac and Cheese which was very good, beans were excellent and we had the potato that was cut into a fan and it was flavorless but very attractive appearance wise. Dessert we had the Jack Daniels blondie brownie with peaches and vanilla ice cream it was scrumptious and perfect size to share with another person. The service was very good. Overall, we had a good experience. We felt that for a smokehouse they probably should have done a better job with the ribs but we are willing to give it another shot.

I won't go back when they fix something. the braut was beautiful and their beers are impressive, but everything else was “not quite there”. the decor is for seasonal rustic, but the poor of my brother's chair in his hand broke off and our table leaves would not stay together. our server was either new or completely overwhelmed (they forgot us several times for bark: not a big thing for us, they were still good, but it could be a significant mistake for some beliefs). two men's meals came 15 minutes after all. my koleslaw was overly spicy and lukewarm (not intentionally so, it was only under the heat lamp too long). my beans were not completely boiled and tasted as if they were in a slightly seasoned ketchup sauce. ironically, the smokers were the worst part of the meal. I really want to like this place! the menu looks good and I love the atmosphere, but imho: there were only too many things that said they are not finished yet.

This place was pretty bad, actually the worst I’ve been to in a really long time. The cocktails were horrific, we ordered a Margarita and an Old Fashioned and both were made with club soda and the Margarita had pink lemonade with the club soda, it was awful! When we ordered they were out of two of their best menu dishes or they had removed them from the menu but we weren’t told until we ordered them. Then we ordered a bottle of wine which they were also out of/didn’t carry but didn’t say anything until they came to our table with a different bottle than what we ordered as they didn’t have the ones on the menu. The food came out cold and was quite bland. All in all a bad experience made worse by the missing items on the menu and terrible cocktails. Skip it!
