Bavaria - Calama

Bavaria is an old chain of restaurants and cafes, very good quality meals at affordable prices.

I expected some German type pub, but it's more family restaurant

Horrible food, overcooked meat and I was chewing on it as far as I can remember. Waiters were courteous, that is the only plus point. **** expensive for the wasteful food we got.

I regret having to do this but the food was really disappointing and the manager’s attitude was very poor. My husband and I ordered medium rare steaks. We waited over an hour. My first steak came without the accompaniment I ordered. The second came and the waiter asked us to check if we were happy with our steaks so we cut into them they were overdone. It’s funny because if we had not been asked to check them we would’ve probably just eaten them and been too shy to complain but because he was asking if they were ok or if we wanted them redone we sent them back. When the third steaks came they were not seared and covered in **** steak juice. Again we were asked to check them. They were blue. We were asked if we wanted to return them again. By now it was 10:45pm, we had been wondering around Calama before this and there was nowhere else decent to eat that we could easily find, we were starving and we had an early flight the next day. Reluctantly we accepted the steaks but mine was so **** I couldn’t finish it. We spoke to the manager afterwards to ask for a discount. He did not even offer an apology and said we shouldn’t have eaten the steaks. Went around in circles for a bit (he picked up the phone at one point, not sure who he was going to call but seemed pretty threatening) We were forced to pay full price. This place has no self respect as a meat restaurant if it can’t even manage steak!

I ordered a steak (medium rare). Being a grill restarant I thought this would be a safe bet. After waiting a long time, the first steak to arrive came with eggs (turns out it was another tables order). After waiting even longer another steak arrived. The waiter asked us to cut the steak to check it was ok, it was not. Completely overcooked and grey throughout. (by this time getting pretty hungry). After waiting another inordinate amount of time, the third steak arrived. This time it was completely undercooked. Pale grey on the outside and bleeding everywhere on the inside, turning the chips blood red. So hungry by this point that we couldn't send it back again. After we complained to the manager about the long wait and the poor food, he threatened to call the police unless we paid the full amount. Also very overpriced. Oh and also they don't serve wine by the glass, only by the bottle.
