We popped in on a rainy night while camping at MB state park. Our dinner was wonderful. Hot and fresh. Our server was lovely. Will definitely return
The Great: May well be the absolute best hush puppies I've ever had in my life. I literally could have sat there and eaten nothing else. we also had frog legs as an app and they were perfectly done. The Good: the sides were all good. Mayo slaw, white beans, fries. the bad: the catfish was all over cooked. Both the whole fish and fillets. Was very disappointing considering the frog legs were cooked just right. Also thought the batter wasn't what you typically find. Seemed to have less cornmeal to flour ratio. Also, hot fish wasn't hot at all. tarter sauce tasted like mayo with pickle relish mixed in. a good start, but where's the rest?
The spicy catfish was spot on. It was crispy and delicious but not too spicy at all. It probably could have been a little more spicy. I would definitely go back.
The sides are served family-style, which can be a bit dangerous for me because I could easily devour a whole family's worth of creamy coleslaw, white beans with red pepper relish, and hushpuppies before my catfish even arrives at the table. And those hushpuppies… absolutely delicious! They're nice and crispy on the outside and fluffy inside. There's a large parking lot out front, marked by the iconic catfish statue, so you know you're at the right place. The interior is simple and, according to my dad, hasn’t changed much in the last 50 years. But it's clean, and honestly, if something works well, why change it? The staff is incredibly friendly, and they accept both cash and cards. Please, Catfish Kitchen, never change!
