The best shime saba you can get in the whole NYC! Tender, fresh and delicious! I would come again and again for this dish alone. Must try for those who enjoy sashimi and strong tasting fish.Ramen is always tasty and consistent. Traditional is best but the spicy options are also very good. Do check out specials which change frequently. Great for lunch since food arrives quickly.
Food is really good here, portions are the right size, octopus app, spicy cold ramen, and Japanese curry were amazing?? limited seating inside, small narrow restaurant, but service was good
This place is pretty standard. Some really great drinks, and some slightly mediocre. Food was good, nothing exceptional, but no complaints. Service was great, from the host to server to bartender everyone was friendly and accommodating. Overall good experience.Food: 4/5
Consider this a combined review for Wanpaku and Hidden Pearl, the speakeasy that is this otherwise unassuming Japanese restaurant on the Williamsburg-Greenpoint border's claim to fame. The wait was not bad on a Friday night. My favorite dish of the evening was the avocado crispy rice, whose texture I would compare to a McDonald's hash brown covered in guacamole. I also am a big of kewpie-based Japanese potato salad, and the version here was good, although I felt tea sandwich bread without the crust would have been a better vehicle than crackers. The vegetarian Japanese curry was good, although admittedly this is a hard dish to make extraordinary. The best item of the night? The extremely green pandan cocktail served in the back at Hidden Pearl after finishing dinner.
