I’m not certain if the menu changes daily, but on the Tuesday I visited, they had plain basmati rice, lemon rice, chicken tikka, two types of chicken curry, beef curry, goat curry (which had a specific name that I unfortunately can't recall), mixed veggie pakora, chana masala (chickpea curry), potatoes, pan-fried okra, three additional veggie dishes, green chutney, tamarind chutney, yogurt, a fresh veggie salad, fruits, and rice pudding. I particularly enjoyed the goat curry; it had no gamey taste and was very tender. The okra, chana masala, and one other mixed veggie dish were also quite flavorful. My only critique would be regarding the chicken curry, which I found to be a bit bland, as well as both chutneys. I would have preferred them to be a little spicier. Overall, Great India offers excellent value for the money, and the food was quite good!
Fantastic food that goes beyond just great Indian cuisine. They offer a wide range of Indian dishes and a limited selection of beers and wines, including some from India, like my personal favorite, Flying Horse Royal Lager, which pairs beautifully with spicy meals. If you enjoy heat, they can make your dish as spicy as you like, but if you prefer a milder flavor, they’re more than happy to accommodate that too. There are plenty of excellent vegetarian options, as well as choices for goat, lamb, beef, and chicken. While the dinner service was a bit off, the exceptional quality of the food definitely warrants a five-star rating. You can often gauge the authenticity of an ethnic restaurant by the number of people from that culture dining there, and at least half the tables were filled with Indian patrons. On my next visit, I opted for one of my favorites—palak paneer—also at "very spicy." Unfortunately, it turned out to be a bit too creamy and not spicy enough, even for that level. While it had decent flavor, I was surprised to find that I actually preferred the chicken tikka masala. I also loved their naan. Overall, it's a great spot for takeout, and I look forward to trying their dine-in experience one day!
I put in a order for takeout. The portions were huge! I'll have more for dinner tomorrow. The lamb curry was delicious. I had them make it spicy, and it came out perfect. I ordered kheer. Overall, it tasted nice and had a good consistency. However, I would've preferred more spices in it. The cheese naan was mediocre.
This is definitely my favorite Indian restaurant in the Twin Cities. The food is spectacular, well flavored, non greasy, and affordable. The service staff are kind and prompt, and the entire meal feels like fine dining food at a diner price. Worth the drive outside Minneapolis--you will not regret it.
