Does not strictly keep to advertised closing time hours shown on its website (Facebook) . Faced with a closed shop on my visit and a blackboard outside saying against each day of the week the closing time was Until close . What is up to cause such unnecessary uncertainly? So beware if travelling late from afar, in fact probably not worth trying.
The place is beautiful and very atmospheric. The service was very slow and below average. The food was average and arrived a bit cold after a long wait. Warmed up potatoes, the promised crusty bread was a slice of white bread.
I have been coming to this restaurant for about forty years, and it remains unchanged in all that time. The staff may have changed over the years, but the service is still friendly and efficient, with great pints of real ale. The selection of ales changes, but Harvey's Best and Taylor's Landlord are usually available. In my opinion, Landlord may not travel well, but it tastes just like it's from Yorkshire here. I hope this place never changes, unlike many other London pubs that have been ruined by poorly thought out renovations that hide the mediocre food and beer they offer. This place is a survivor and I am glad it has stayed true to its roots.
I love this pub that doesn't have music playing and doesn't allow kids and phones at the bar area. It's absolutely fantastic! The drinks are reasonably priced, the staff is friendly, and there's a lovely beer garden for families with young children. I appreciate that they only restrict kids and phones in the front area where people are chatting. Keep up the great work!
