We got lunch specials; the peanut satay roti, beef massaman curry and ka prao chicken (sorry about that spelling!!). My curry was excellent, VERY generous on how much meat was in. Mum had the chicken and she enjoyed it, same thing there was ALOT of meat. The pic of the pond was the view from our table. Would definitely come back again
After a pleasant walk through West End and Southbank we dropped in here for dinner, continuing our search for some decent Thai food in Brisbane. And the search continues... We ordered a tom yum goong (tom yum soup with prawns) and a pad thai with prawns. We asked for the dishes to not be sweet. The tom yum was the better dish, with reasonably good flavour, but the quantity for the price was tiny. $12 for a little soup and 2 prawns is a little steep. In terms of flavour, this dish rated a 3.5 and value for money rated a 3. The pad thai was better in terms of quantity, but lacked flavour. The prawns were well cooked, but bean sprouts were served raw and the noodles were not much better. This dish rated a 3.
A quick review that will be embellished when the day is young, this Thai gets a big shout out in both the quality and value stakes, offering multiple discounts (5, 10, 15% depending on if you Like and Check In on Facebook, takeaway or return in 15 days! The Barramundi Fish was absolutely spectacular with a beautiful Thai dressing, and the potato roti with the peanut satay sauce was wonderful also. The duck spiring rolls were tasty, although suffered from too much mint and slight dryness from the duck. The soup with coconut cream and prawns was also pleasant, but suffered from overpowering coconut milk and a lack of balance from the other elements in the dish. The owner was very friendly and the view (with the pond close at hand) and plenty of space make this a definitely place to visit if you are after Thai and happen to be in Southbank.
Came here once with a friend for lunch. Prices are higher than expected for the quality of food. Not a bad place but food was just a tad less average
-----3 Sept, 2016----- We returned to Siam Thai tonight. I loved the food. We ordered Will You Marry Me as an entree. I don't know why they call it that. It is calamari with sweet chilli dipping sauce. It could have been drained slightly longer but was otherwise delicious and well-cooked. For mains we had 2 fish dishes and a vegetable dish. The sweet and sour fish was unusual in that it was a large fillet battered and fried with the vegetables an sauce piled on top. This was so much nicer than the usual small pieces but they need to serve it with a knife. A spoon is not for cutting. The other fish dish was a steamed barramundi with celery and the usual suspects chilli and ginger. The celery was braised and was soft and delicious. It was only just outdone by the fish which was also fantastic. The vegetable dish was I Am Healthy. We asked for some chilli to be added. It was nice but nothing special. The let down was the service. The staff were friendly but everything was so slow. They were slow to take our order and then the food took quite a while before it started arriving. Drinks orders also took a while to arrive. We had to chase them for a few things. Still, it was probably better than my visit 3.5yrs ago so I've increased my score. -----23 Dec, 2012----- We went to Siam Southbank with friends last night. While the company was good the restaurant was disappointing overall. One of the party had to practically accost a waiter to take our order after sitting with menus closed for several minutes. The food then came in good time and was good. I had a vegetarian tom yum followed by a shared barramundi choo chee and vegetable jungle curry. The jungle curry sauce was too watery and there was too much tofu (which wasn't mentioned in the description as we would have requested it be left out entirely). Four people in the party requested steamed rice with their main meal when we placed our order but all that arrived was one little bowl. We requested more but were told it would have to be cooked and would take a while so we didn't bother and had nothing to mop up the watery sauce. We then ordered desserts and coffee. The coffee was described as average. The extreme choc ice cream was very disappointing. It consisted of a scoop of average cheap ice cream with a supermarket style chocolate sauce and a dollop of ready made whipped cream. The banana in coconut milk was just that - a banana sliced into 3 added to a bowl with some coconut milk, a bit of salt and a sprinkling of shredded coconut and warmed. It tasted nice but the milk was too watery and would have been better with coconut cream. We asked for 2 ice buckets for our wine. We received 1 but still paid full corkage. The service overall was terrible; we had to hunt down wait staff for our initial order, ice bucket and dessert menus. They really didn't seem to care and one guy spoke very poor English, which didn't help. We still had a lovely night with friends but won't be rushing back to Siam.
